This position will assist the pharmacist in all aspects of prescription preparation and delivery, including data processing, inventory management, prescription preparation, customer service, and department maintenance.

Responsibilities

1. Prescription Processing & Preparation
1.1 Accurately and efficiently locate and enter patient demographic information into pharmacy systems , perform necessary calculations to ensure proper dosage, directions, and quantity entered and selected.
1.2 Ensure accurate transcription of new medication orders and processing of refill requests

1.3 Assist in third party prescription adjudication, working closely with third party payers, medical providers and patients to resolve issues.
1.4 Assist in prescription cost management by investigating copay assistance, discount cards, manufacturer coupons, 340-B pricing options, etc.
1.5 Accurately and efficiently pick, prepare, package, and label prescription medications for verification bythe pharmacist.
1.6 Assist in the preparation and packaging of LTC prescriptions according to all regulations and policies of the department, including use of blister packaging device.

2. Customer Service and Communication
2.1 Assist patients in a timely and courteous manner with register transactions, telephone calls, and with OTC product location
2.2 Respond to nursing, provider, inpatient pharmacy personnel, and other members of the medical team via telephone, in-person, or electronically. Appropriately manage, triage, and follow up on various inquiries in a timely and professional manner to ensure accurate and safe medication or information delivery.
2.3 Adhere to HIPAA guidelines in all forms of communication.

3. Department Maintenance
3.1 Maintain a clean and organized work environment
3.2 Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements pertaining to record keeping, organization, and retention.
3.3 Maintain a proper stocking of all pharmacy items and supplies required for prescription preparation
3.4 Assist in opening and closing procedures of pharmacy department

4. Other Responsibilities
4.1 Meets performance expectations for Customer Service, Teamwork, Resource Utilization, and Staff and Self Development as outlined in performance review.
4.2 Support prescription delivery processes to patient bedside and other areas as required
4.3 Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the department/unit


Qualifications

EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or equivalent required with additional broad training in fields such as medical office administration, pharmacy technician, social services or similar vocations generally obtained through completion of Associate's degree program or pharmacy technician training program.

EXPERIENCE:
Experience with direct patient counseling is required. 3-5 years of retail pharmacy technician experience or specialty pharmacy technician experience preferred. Knowledge of drug products and insurance processing required.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
Registration with the State of Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection as a pharmacy technician is required by completion of probationary period, and active Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or equivalent certification is required on or within 1 year of date of hire. PTCB certifications in Medication Therapy management and Billing and Reimbursement expected within 18 months of hire.

SPECIAL SKILLS:

Strong customer service skills and independent problem solving is a requirement. Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to prioritize and multitask frequently and quickly. Knowledge of pharmaceutical industry medication patient assistance programs is preferred. Must be competent with Microsoft Office applications. Must have patient management expertise, strong time management, and organizational skills. Must possess flexibility, eagerness to learn, and be proactive in approaching the varying needs of our patient population.
