Colonial Family Practice is located throughout Sumter, Columbia, Camden, and Manning, South Carolina. Colonial offers primary care, urgent care, pediatrics, pain management, behavioral health, neurology, lab and in house diagnostics with over with over 50 providers across 11 clinics.

This position is accountable for the growth and financial performance of Colonial Family Practice, an Optum owned company. This leader will set vision and purpose for CFP and lead a team of physician and department leaders across multiple sites and functions.

As a part of the Optum Mid-Atlantic Region, they will develop and drive value-based care partnership initiatives and improve operational and financial performance of the medical group. This position will be responsible for creating or updating foundational processes and ensuring applicable governance and documentation is established and maintained.

As VP Operations of Colonial Family Practice, this position will collaborate with other OptumHealth and Optum Care Delivery leaders to leverage best in class technology, services, and assets to advance the mission and vision of Colonial Family Practice

Provides overall strategic and operational direction for Colonial Family Medicine. This leader will advance the company's mission by leading the development of short and long-range objectives, policies, budgets and operating plans for the organization.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Drives high-quality execution and operational excellence by communicating clear directions and expectations
  • Leads operations across all departments and revises objectives and policies in response to internal and external conditions
  • Responsible for successfully transforming CFP to higher value-based care delivery, while continuing to maximize value from fee-for-service business
  • Develops, plans, implements programs to achieve objectives in growth and integration with Optum corporate and business processes
  • Leads medical group leadership teams to implement best practices, organizational sustainability and continuity of business operations
  • Leads patient satisfaction programs, lean initiatives, and compliance with regulatory standards
  • Partners with medical management team to promote clinical process improvement and access to care
  • Ensures compliance with state and national laws through effective policy and procedure committee and audit
  • Ensures cost effective delivery of health care within the assigned operations
  • Experience with common healthcare metrics and KPIs with the ability to trend, recognize, and mitigate outliers and issues
  • Fosters and develops the Optum culture among staff and physicians and fosters an atmosphere of trust and open dialogue
  • Collaborate effectively with OptumHealth regional leadership to optimize clinical and business operations including the adoption of technology, data and analytics capabilities, best practice workflows and appropriate regionalization/centralization of clinical and business processes

Required Qualifications:



  • 7+ years of experience in a leadership capacity in a managed care healthcare delivery organization
  • 7+ years working in a matrix organization
  • 7+ years P&L and/or extensive budgeting experience and consistently meeting Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and/or goals
  • Experience in running a medical group
  • Experience in the healthcare industry and its regulatory environment coupled with demonstrated strategic leadership and organizational development experience
  • Periodic travel
  • Lives in Columbia/Sumter SC or open to relocation



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's degree or above
  • Experience in fast paced environments with competing priorities and/or deliverables
  • Experience in change management
  • Demonstrated successful leadership skills in program execution and people management
  • Proven leadership skills in both internal and external environments
  • Ability to execute to short and long-term growth and maintaining budgetary targets
  • Management experience and executive oversight in a clinical setting
  • Experience in medical utilization management, medical quality assurance, quality improvement techniques, risk management
  • Extensive knowledge of medical operations; strong knowledge of management practices, human relations, consensus building and collaborative ability
  • Solid oral and written communication techniques and be professionally respected by peers; leadership ability; demonstrated expertise in multiple medical care settings
