Engineer Sr - Rotating Equipment Reliability

SUMMARY

Primary focus for this position is rotating equipment reliability, but not exclusive of other areas. This position drives improvements in maintenance costs and equipment reliability through effective reliability engineering.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assigned area lead for rotating equipment initiatives and reliability program(s).
  • Provide technical assistance to the maintenance engineers and supervisors in the repair and improvement of all process rotating equipment especially on critical turbomachinery.
  • Provide support for the management of rotating equipment predictive/preventative maintenance programs to enhance reliability efforts.
  • Mentor and assist in development of rotating reliability personnel.
  • Develop and improve precision maintenance procedures for repair of rotating equipment.
  • Perform equipment failure analysis (i.e. RCA &/or 5-Why) to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Work with maintenance engineers to evaluate and recommend alternate mechanical spare parts sources vs. OEM parts.
  • Technical lead on equipment overhauls on larger pieces of rotating equipment.
  • Evaluate and audit external rotating repair/machine shop service resources and capabilities.
  • Support the site and maintenance goals by developing, enhancing data visibility, and driving improvement in key performance indicators.
  • Provide technical support on turnarounds and outages, both planned and unplanned.
  • Provide technical support, review, and input on projects for infrastructure recapitalization and reliability improvements.
  • Stay abreast and facilitate the incorporation of new reliability technology and industry best practices to drive reliability improvements.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS in mechanical engineering from an accredited university preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of chemical plant experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, strong work planning and organizational skills required.
  • Successful candidates must satisfy background screening, including motor vehicle record screening, drug testing & pre-employment physical requirements before starting work.
  • A current, valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is required .

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
