Position Title: Outdoor School Volunteer Facilitator
Department: Northwest Outdoor Science School
Location: Washington Service Center - HIllsboro
Reports To: NOSSPrincipal
Compensation: Classified Salary Schedule - Range T
$31.28 - $37.35 per hour; DOE
Bargaining Unit: OSEA
FTE: 1.0 FTE - 190 Days

General Description:
In alignment with the NWRESD's mission statement, the Northwest Outdoor Science School
(NOSS) Volunteer Facilitator position will facilitate the recruitment, screening, selection, training,
placement, support, evaluation, and ongoing communication with high school and college
volunteers in the NOSS program.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform
each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the
knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to

1. Minimum requirement of a high school diploma or equivalent, bachelor's degree
preferred
2. Experience in outdoor education or related field
3. Valid driver's license, vehicle available for use on the job, and accompanying automobile
insurance.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
1. Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging through

2. Active interest in youth and environment
3. Ability to work with very high degree of accuracy and organizational skills
4. Ability to exhibit professionalism and effective human relations with both youth and
adults
5. Ability to establish and maintain strong professional relationships with high school and
college students, high school counselors, high school administrators, college placement
officials, and other community members
6. Confer regularly with supervisor and/or designee
7. Working knowledge of technology and software as required by the position
8. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by participating in professional
development activities

Essential functions : Include the following. Performs some or all of the following tasks. Other Duties may be assigned . The duties listed below are not inclusive, but characteristic of the type and level of work assigned for this position.

A. Work with high school staff (counselors, teachers, administrators) to promote the NOSS
Student Leader program and coordinate logistics for students to attend.
B. Recruit high school and college students to serve as NOSS Student Leaders.
C. Develop and implement an appropriate screening process for high school and college volunteers.
D. Facilitate "in-town" and "on-site" training for student volunteers.
E. Coordinate schedules and communicate with student volunteers on a regular basis to
ensure appropriate numbers of high school students are assigned to each site each week.
F. Facilitate and arrange transportation of Student Leaders to NOSS sites via contracted
school bus or other means.
G. Send off and greet high school students each week.
H. Work closely with NOSS site staff and NOSS Administration to implement effective
training, supervision and evaluation of high school students while at NOSS.
I. Collect weekly evaluations from sites and distribute them to high schools in a timely fashion.
J. Keep accurate and accessible records of all volunteers.
K. Communicate regularly with high school students in a variety of formats (newsletters,
email, phone, postcard, letters) in order to increase engagement and recruitment efforts.
L. Promote volunteer opportunities at various venues including, but not limited to; high
schools, colleges, fairs, conferences, meetings, etc.
M. Develop and implement a student driven high school student leader recruitment
program in local high schools.
N. Work with school districts outside the NWRESD service area to increase high school
student leader recruitment.
O. Attends ESD staff meetings and other meetings as required. Serves on committees, etc.,
as requested by the supervisor.
P. Maintain professional growth through participation in professional organizations, reading
of professional publications, in-service training courses, etc.
Q. Assist NOSS office and site staff as needed to support NOSS operations.
R. Travel to NOSS sites during the session to support high school students and site staff as
needed to support and enrich the Student Leader program.
S. Assist with creating and promoting dual-credit opportunities for high school students.
