Job Summary :

Performs comprehensive assessments and reassessments for primary education groups (students or participants); including identification of actual or potential education needs. Duties are also to incorporate data obtained from hire in sheets, management, individuals, groups needs assessments, and quality improvement data. To apply advanced assessment knowledge to students/participants and develop an individualized education plan based on staff development policy and job description function. You will respond to assessment findings, as dictated by student/department needs and have experience and knowledge of adult learning principles for the overall planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programming.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

PLANNING

  • Upon assessment, collaborates with other health care providers regarding the education plan. Revises education plan based on validations.
  • Develops and revises orientation calendars for assigned units/areas based on individual needs.
  • Provides feedback to leadership on:

Orientees

Preceptors

Orientation program

Competency completion

  • Develops annual and monthly education calendar based on department input.
  • Assists Directors in the development of specific programs/competencies for assigned units/areas per regulatory standards.
  • Sets up an individual action plan for competency follow up.
  • Consults with housewide committees for departmental education needs and assists in the implementation of services.
  • Maintains resources in the Learning Lab. Obtains rooms/equipment for in-services. Utilizes various instructional modes. When requested, may assist with:

Research of literature

Space provisions

Forms/handouts

Instructors

Documentation validation

Consultation ideas

IMPLEMENTING

  • Provides educational programs based on needs/priorities and completion requirement for participants.
  • Provides one to one education/direction when requested.
  • Applies principles of Standard Precautions based on HRH policies.
  • Complies with OSHA regulations as observed in daily practice/teaching.
  • Assists with ongoing education programming ACLS/BLS/PALS
  • Knows OSHA Exposure category.
  • Applies safety principles when teaching.
  • Follows HRH safety, fire and disaster plans specific to all hospital areas.
  • Follows Hazardous Waste Flow.
  • Complies with regulatory standards.
  • Provides education programs to meet needs, documented established forms/systems.
  • Maintains and updates the orientation curriculum per established standards.
  • Develops curriculum competencies and orientation standards per regulatory guidelines
  • Documents programming.
  • Provides attendance records/summary sheets.
  • Verifies and utilizes attendance within the computerized tracking system.
  • Participates in gathering attendance at multi-disciplinary activities.
  • Communicates with Director or designees.
  • Significant changes in student progress.
  • Significant changes for potential or suspected educational barriers.
  • Follows a chain of command for unresolved educational issues.
  • Participates in recruitment/retention activities as needed. Submits budgetary requests to the Manager of Educational Services.
  • Organizes and maintains learning resources, supplies, and storage areas in conjunction with assigned units/areas.

EVALUATION

  • Evaluates the effectiveness of educational programming including:

Participant evaluation or response in relation to expected outcomes.

Responses from other health care providers for program effectiveness.

Preceptors/mentors.

  • Revises education plan as needed based on feedback from:

Program teaching in relation to expected outcomes.

Information/responses from other health care providers.

Preceptors/mentors

New Policies/Procedures.

  • Provides, maintains, and evaluates educational resources.
  • Utilizes established curriculum evaluation.
  • Utilizes regulatory guidelines.

ETHICS

  • Maintains confidentiality housewide.
  • Patient/student confidentiality
  • Department confidentiality
  • Hospital confidentiality
  • Utilizes resources to address ethical issues when necessary.
  • Identifies policy and procedure resources.
  • Identifies resource persons or departments. (Ethics Committee, Social Services, HIM, Risk Manager, Utilization Review, and Corporate Compliance)

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and licensed Registered Nurse.
  • 3-5 years of experience, preferably in a hospital or healthcare setting.

Licenses or Certifications:

  • Current licensure by the Indiana State Board of Nurses' Registration and Nursing Education as an active Registered Nurse.
  • Maintains instructors status for: AHA programs: ACLS, BLS, PALS
