Job Summary

Under general supervision, the Production Manager is responsible for technical staging and logistics of events for the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, with focus on providing the best possible artist and audience experience. Direct activities of stage managers and principal and senior technicians; oversee activities of stage crews; provide technical expertise to management, clients and artists; oversee production-related safety; build event budgets and monitor expenditures. The Production Manager's scope of responsibility includes technical details and logistics for all arts, lecture, and special events taking place at the Mondavi Center's or other venues as assigned. Directly or indirectly supervises 13 technical staff and oversees ~50 limited-term staff and students.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in theater production, stage management or a related field with experience in all aspects of stage operations including: lighting, electrics, sound, rigging, flyrail, video, stage and house repair and maintenance.
  • Supervisory experience including recruitment, selection, training, correcting and evaluating employees. Skill to lead a diverse group of staff members.
  • Experience with budgeting, scheduling, and vendor relations.
  • Experience with fire and safety codes, regulations and emergency procedures related to public assembly and stage safety, applying knowledge and enforcing these practices and instructing others in their enforcement.
  • Skills to work with a diverse group of constituents, including university and community clients, professional touring artists and their staffs, agents, performers, administrative staff, technical crews and students.
  • Skills to function as a liaison to all producing departments, gathering, interpreting, and communicating all technical information for all events that are programmed.
  • Organizational, time management, communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MA/MFA/BA degree in Production Management, Technical Production or Theatre Management with a technical theatre background or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in a professional or educational performing arts center or theatrical performing center in a supervisory role.
  • Experience managing and developing union and non-union staff.
  • Experience working directly with stage lighting equipment; the applications of amplified sound, stage equipment and technology; and/or stage rigging and counterweight systems and the maintenance, use, replacement and procurement of equipment.
