Position Summary

Position Summary:

At the Long Island State Veterans Home, our Sterile Supply Technicians are the primary lead persons in medical supply inventory management, utilizing an electronic inventory system.

THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION.

Duties of a Sterile Supply Technician may include the following but are not limited to:




  • Responsible for ensuring on-time delivery of all pars in the morning, which also includes back-filling all carts by noon.


  • Email requests to be filled and delivered in the afternoon including, but not limited to, picking up medical requisitions, delivery to nursing units, organizing and maintaining automatic exchange cart parring system (carts and supply rooms should be maintained on a weekly basis).


  • The primary medical supply storeroom should be maintained by organizing, restocking shelf locations and performing physical inventories. According to LISVH policy and procedure manual, primary medical storeroom is to be kept in a neat, clean condition.


  • Maintenance to include, on an on-going basis, the following:



    • a) While parring units, a written record of the condition of par supply rooms must be presented to the Director of Purchasing


    • b) Re-label and reorganize par carts and primary medical supply room, so that other staff members are able to fill in on an as needed basis during vacations and holidays, etc.


    • c) Label and identify re-order points for all stock items and must be visible on each shelf location in the primary medical supply storeroom


    • d) Ensure stockroom items are re-ordered on an as needed basis to avoid stock outs


    • e) Restocking of all shelves with incoming supplies should be done after deliveries are received and must advise the Director of Purchasing of any differences in package quantities, product, etc.


    • f) Keep and maintain accurate records of all inventory issued




  • Delivery and replacement of oxygen tanks to the first floor supply room, assist in picking up medical supplies for UH Exchange Cart and pick up specimens from the third floor on a daily basis.


  • Receive, unload equipment/supplies from trucks, check PO's and fill out appropriate paperwork as needed.


  • Sort/deliver mail and assist with inventory of capital equipment as needed.


  • May be required to provide transportation for resident recreational trips, occasionally during off-shift hours, and transporting staff members to and from the Long Island State Veterans Home in inclement weather on an as needed basis.


  • Interact with all levels of administration and departmental staff.



Required Qualifications:

Successful completion of a nationally accredited central service exam for central service technicians AND current certification by a nationally accredited central sterile technician credentialing organization as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician, Central Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician, or a substantially equivalent credential OR Ability to obtain required certification within 18 months of hiring date. The physical ability to perform heavy physical labor continuously and stand for long periods of time. The ability to understand and carry out written and oral instruction. PC knowledge in inventory maintenance. A valid New York State Driver License which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Central Supply Processing Department Technician (CSPDT) certificate through the International Association of Healthcare Central Sterile Material Management (IAHCSMM). A valid NYS Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Working Conditions:

Working conditions may involve exposure to infectious disease, blood, body fluids and/or tissue as well as other unpleasant elements such as accidents, injuries and illness. May be exposed to and be required to handle varying unpredictable, emergency and crisis situations. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours and pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.
