Function:

Environmental, Health & Safety Job Summary:CF Industries has many exciting and challenging opportunities at its world class Nitrogen Chemicals production facility in Yazoo City, Mississippi. This facility is a 24/7 operation producing Ammonia, Nitric Acid, Urea, Ammonium Nitrate and dinitrogen-tetroxide. The lab supervisor organizes and directs the daily activities of the laboratory which includes conducting and overseeing quality assurance and quality control, process control analysis, finished product analysis and certification, by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting lab sample results. This position supervises the daily activity of 9 full time Chemical Technicians covering 4 shifts. Job Description:

Job Description:

  • Ensure safe working conditions are present in all laboratory activities and appropriate Personal Protective Equipment is used by the lab personnel within the lab and within process areas.
  • Maintains policies, plans and procedures pertaining to the control of chemical processes involved in the production process including a Laboratory Chemical Hygiene Plan.
  • Maintain records and reports to certify accuracy of analyses for product shipments.
  • Implement and maintain monitoring program for plant effluent water stream to assure that established regulatory permit conditions are being met.
  • Maintain approved laboratory certification for various governmental reporting requirements.
  • Implement and maintain quality assurance programs and related testing for all applicable products.
  • Works closely with operations and facility management team to relay process control analytical information.
  • Work closely with Corporate Quality team to investigate and resolve quality deficiencies.
  • Select, train and develop laboratory analysts to perform their job in support of plant activities and their personal development plans.
  • Ensure adequate 24/7 lab technician coverage is maintained in the lab to perform timely testing requirements.
  • Ensures the laboratory maintains compliance with the testing requirements as required to comply with State Department of Environmental Quality, US EPA and CF quality management systems.
  • Utilize the facility LIMS activities and train new lab staff to use these tools.
  • Quality performance analysis benchmarking and reporting.
  • Oversees and manages the site potable water compliance program, pursuant to the federal Safe Drinking Water Act and other federal and state requirements. Interfaces with the Mississippi Department of Health, where necessary.
  • Assist in developing and adhering to the laboratory budget, including staff and overtime, and appropriate service contracts.
  • Identifies deficiencies in existing processes/procedures, the need for new ones, and the extent to which such processes/procedures are being followed. Develops and implements corrective actions with regard to deficiencies or disregard to following existing processes/procedures.
  • Demonstrate continual focus on improvements and enhancements.
  • Participate in and/or facilitate regulatory inspections and/or quality audits.
  • Provide recommendations for laboratory testing equipment
  • Maintains an inventory of analytical testing reagents, glassware, and supplies.
  • Prepares reports as required that summarize analytical testing results and lab activities.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • B.S. degree in Chemistry required, M.S. in Chemistry highly desired
  • Minimum of 5 years lab leadership in a supervisory role is highly desired
  • Proficient in Microsoft IT Environment (WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT, Outlook)
  • Knowledge of SharePoint or comparable Intranet systems
  • Experience utilizing Lab Vantage LIMS or Comparable Systems
  • Strong working knowledge of lab instrumentation including refractometers, density meter, NIR, FTIR, ICP, GC and Ion Chromatography, and UV-Vis spectrophotometers.
