Manager, Full Stack Engineering - Hybrid Work Environment

The Manager, Full Stack Engineering is managerial level position responsible for leading a technical team of Full Stack engineers to drive the successful development and delivery of software solutions across the entire organization. This role involves overseeing the software development life cycle, ensuring adherence to best practices, managing resources, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals. This position is part of the Software Engineering leadership team and provides input on overall technical strategy, process improvement, and fostering a culture of innovation & excellence. This position is based out of the Gainesville, Georgia headquarters and will report directly to the Sr Director, Software Engineering.

Responsibilities:

Performance Management:

  • Lead and manage a team of Full Stack Engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to foster their professional growth and development.
  • Oversee the software development life cycle, from requirements gathering and design to coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Ensure the team follows software engineering best practices, coding standards, and quality assurance processes to deliver robust and scalable software solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, UX/UI design, and quality assurance, to align software development activities with project goals, timelines, and requirements.
  • Manage and prioritize software engineering projects, allocating resources, setting realistic timelines, and monitoring progress to ensure successful and on-time delivery.
  • Collaborate with leadership for departmental OKR setting for the annual performance year.

Full Stack Development:

  • Direct the development of robust, scalable, and efficient web applications ensuring high performance and optimal user experience.
  • Manage the development of front-end and back-end systems using modern web technologies (e.g., React, Node.js, etc.)
  • Manage the design and implementation of RESTful APIs to connect the front-end with back-end services.
  • Manage the creation & maintenance of databases using SQL/NoSQL solutions (e.g., MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB)

Software Optimization:

  • Responsible for the overall application performance of assigned software across the entire organization.
  • Work closely with product managers, UX/UI designers, and other engineers to deliver high-quality software on time.
  • Ensure team is maintaining detailed documentation for new features and changes to existing systems.
  • Continuously monitor and improve application security, identifying and mitigating potential vulnerabilities.
  • As needed, write unit tests, integration tests, and debug issues to ensure the stability of the platform.
  • As needed, troubleshoot and debug complex issues, identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
  • Participate in Agile development methodologies, including sprint planning, task estimation, and progress tracking.

Emerging Technologies:

  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies and apply them to improve our development processes and methodologies.
  • Share your knowledge and expertise to foster team growth.
  • Engage with interdisciplinary teams to conceptualize, design, and release new product functionalities and user experiences.

Requirements:

Formal Education & Certification:

  • Four (4) year degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering (or) a minimum of a two (2) year Associate's degree in a similar degree path and relevant experience.
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, or CompTIA Network+) are preferred and considered beneficial for this role.

Knowledge & Experience:

  • 5 or more years of direct experience in Full Stack engineering within a similar sized, or larger, organization.
  • 2 or more years' experience in leading technical teams of engineers focusing on Full Stack engineering technologies within a similar sized, or larger, organization.
  • Technical proficiency in the following:
    1. HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and modern front-end frameworks (React, Vue.js, or Angular).
    2. Server-side languages such as Node.js, Python, or .NET Core.
    3. SQL/NoSQL databases (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB).
    4. Hands-on experience with building and consuming RESTful APIs.
    5. Git and collaborative development platforms like GitHub or GitLab.
    6. Azure services for cloud services deployment and management.
  • Experience with containerization tools like Docker or Kubernetes and familiarity with DevOps practices & CI/CD pipelines is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with managing software development projects, including resource allocation, project planning and risk management.

Qualifications & Characteristics:

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a fast paced, team environment.
  • Valid driver's license with no restrictions and clean driving history.

Work Environment & Travel:

  • 40-hour work week with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote, business conditions permitting. (After training is completed)
  • This position may have planned, overnight travel to other site locations within the Company that could include weekends and Holidays.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours as needed.
  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other computer components.
  • Close visual acuity needed to review diagrams and for discerning fine print.
  • Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
