Position Title: PRODUCTION PLANNER

Position Summary: Responsible for scheduling and prioritizing customer orders and material requirements in a production manufacturing facility. Interact daily with all internal departments.

Reports To: Production Control Manager

Personnel: N/A

Responsibilities:

Generate plans using Visual Manufacturing ERP software to support on time customer shipments and coordinate the execution of those plans. Analyze MRP information to initiate raw material purchases, communicate customer needs/schedules to manufacturing team leaders, and work with inventory control to ensure materials are delivered to the production floor in a timely manner. Communicate regularly with Engineering Teams as issues arise. Communicate regularly with Supply Chain to resolve delivery issues and provide forecasts. Plan and manage scheduling agreements, which involve customers, suppliers, and supply chain. Work with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure work order routings are clear and accurate.

Authorities: The primary authority of the production planner is to ensure ERP schedules are accurate and priorities are communicated to the shop floor to support on-time deliveries.

Duties:

  • Daily
  • Provide schedules and set priorities in support of customer needs to various manufacturing Team Leaders.
  • Manage flow of parts between departments.
  • Communicate with Inventory Control to coordinate timely material deliveries.
  • Communicate with Supply Chain to ensure forecasts are provided to vendors and they are staying on schedule.
  • Maintain accurate purchase order information in ERP system.
  • Modify order release dates/ship dates based on supply and demand.
  • Weekly
  • Provide weekly shipment lists to all necessary manufacturing teams.
  • Work with Customer Focused Team Leaders to verify purchase orders are placed and shipment quantities are correct.
  • Attend weekly production meetings.
  • Monthly
  • Review ship dates with Production Control Manager and Customer Focused Team Leaders, adjusting as needed.
  • Send vendors updated forecast for each part number they supply.
  • Provide monthly forecasts to management.
  • As needed
  • Maintain MRP information in regard to lead times.
  • Review on hand requirements through MRP.
  • Facilitate meetings.

Job Qualification Requirements:

Educational Experience - College degree preferred, but not required.

Experience/Skills

  • Minimum 1-5 years of experience scheduling in a manufacturing environment. Job shop preferred, but not required.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills to include Microsoft Word, Excel, and Projects.
  • Understanding of ERP/MRP principals.
  • Ability to discern meaningful data points and report in a way that is both understandable and accurate.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams to accomplish business goals and objectives.
  • Infor Visual Manufacturing experience a plus, but not required.

Physical Demands - The employee is required to:

  • Stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to floor.
  • Exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Certification Required - APICS certification is extremely beneficial, but not required.

Visual Acuity - Accommodations as required for reading computer screens and documents.

Hearing Ability - Ability to communicate with employees.

Working Conditions - Normally works in an office environment and may frequently be subject to:

  • High noise levels from machinery.
  • Physical hazards from moving equipment and production components.
  • Breathing fumes, dust and mist.
  • Skin exposure to oils and cutting fluids.
  • Welding flashes.

The employee may be required to follow other job-related instructions and to perform other job-related duties as requested, subject to all applicable state and federal laws.

Attendance is an essential job function.

Employees will operate in compliance of all recognized standards that Major Tool adheres to (such as AS9100, ISO 9000), including all supporting policies and procedures.
