Post Doctoral Researcher to pursue specialized research training, education and experience under the guidance of a scientific mentor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences in the laboratory of Dr. Nagaraj Kerur - plans, designs and executes experiments of considerable scope and complexity in the assigned research lab; collects and analyzes data for research sponsored by appropriate agencies and Institutions; identifies and selects problems to be studied; develops and troubleshoots new experimental techniques and protocols; attends research seminars; contributes to manuscript preparation and supports technical writing; participates in preparation of grant applications for extramural funding; performs additional duties as assigned. A major focus of research in the Kerur laboratory is built around innate immune mechanisms, particularly, those related intracellular nucleic acid sensing pathways. These pathways are being investigated both within the broad context of addressing fundamental questions in immunology as well as to develop a deeper understanding of the sterile inflammation in degenerative conditions such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), glaucoma and Alzheimers disease (AD). Experience/Education A PhD in biological sciences, or a professional doctorate with experience in biomedical research required; background in vision research or training in ophthalmology is highly desired but not required. Applicants should have proven experience in one of the fields related to immunology, cell signaling, molecular biology, ophthalmology/vision research. Experience in Western blots, confocal microscopy, cell culture, traditional and quantitative real-time PCR, immunoprecipitation, microdissection and/or biomechanical testing and modeling. Experience working with animal models of eye diseases is a plus. |
