The
Local Area Network (LAN) Administrator
position supports the U.S. Navy in the Groton, CT area and requires active security clearance or eligibility.
Position Summary
The Local Area Network (LAN) Administrator will manage, secure, and optimize LAN infrastructure to support federal government programs, including those for the U.S. Navy. This role involves the administration, maintenance, and analysis of LAN systems, ensuring network performance, reliability, and compliance with stringent cybersecurity requirements. The LAN Administrator will also support system upgrades, resolve network issues, and implement best practices for cybersecurity and information assurance.
Key Responsibilities
- Network Administration:
- Maintain and manage LAN systems to ensure continuous and efficient operation.
- Monitor network performance and implement solutions to optimize functionality and reliability.
- Install and upgrade server hardware, operating systems, and Learning Management System (LMS) software for development and testing environments.
- Security and Compliance:
- Implement and enforce network security measures, including firewalls, encryption, and access controls, to protect sensitive information.
- Ensure compliance with DoD and Navy cybersecurity requirements, including those outlined in NIST SP 800-171 and DFARS 252.239-7001.
- Administer privileged access agreements and maintain documentation to meet Information Assurance (IA) standards.
- Troubleshooting and Support:
- Diagnose and resolve network issues, minimizing downtime and maintaining system integrity.
- Perform root cause analysis of network incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Provide technical support for network users and coordinate with other teams to address infrastructure needs.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of LAN configurations, security policies, and system changes.
- Prepare and submit regular reports on network performance, compliance, and incidents.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for LAN administration and security practices.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in information technology, cybersecurity, or a related field, or completion of CNSSI certification (4012, 4013, 4014, 4015, 4016) or equivalent military training.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Information Assurance Compliance (Specialty Area 61) or a related field.
- Proficient in LAN infrastructure, including network design, configuration, and administration.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices, including incident response and vulnerability management.
- Experience with compliance frameworks such as NIST SP 800-171 and DOD 8570.01-M.
- Ability to obtain and maintain access to classified information systems.
Desired:
- Familiarity with Navy IT systems and standards.
- Certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
- Experience with maintaining networks supporting Navy training systems or similar federal programs.
- Knowledge of LAN diagnostic tools and techniques, including system monitoring software.
