Job Summary

Funds Flow Financial Analyst is responsible for providing support to the Funds Flow functions, including implementation and maintenance of the Funds Flow model for UC Davis Health, which manages the allocation of over $350M+ annually. This includes at least 20 different work streams incorporating multiple data sources to calculate the clinical, education, and research components of the Funds Flow model. This position will also be the primary liaison between the Finance department, Clinical Affairs, School of Medicine (SOM) Dean's Office as well as the SOM Clinical Departments, Basic Science Departments and Centers. As liaison, this position will be able to explain all the components of the model, provide detailed calculations, and interface/communicate with leadership, staff and faculty at all levels. This position will also integrate the model into the budget process ensuring proper allocation and accurate posting of all work streams into the general ledger. A key aspect of this role is to ensure data integrity and system integration; therefore, the position will be responsible for maintaining key systems models such as Axiom EPM and Tableau.

The position performs high-level analysis to aid in the financial and strategic management of the School of Medicine and UCD Medical Center. The position requires strong analytical skills, strong communication skills, advanced software knowledge, and ability to work with people of all levels of the organization.

  • Advanced degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting, Business or Finance or equivalent experience.
  • Experience performing high-level analysis to aid in the financial and strategic management of the organization
  • Strong communication skills
  • Broad understanding of health care financial and reporting environment.
  • Advanced software knowledge
  • Experienced in working with people of all levels of the organization
  • Advanced knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.
  • Ability to identify, collect, and analyze information from multiple sources.
  • Advanced ability to effectively present complex finance related information both verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to build relationship with peers, business partners, and leadership team and present complex topics to all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated professional level of analytical, statistical, and mathematical skills to conduct complex quantitative analyses.
  • Ability to develop executive summaries as well as detailed financial and statistical reports.
  • Advanced spreadsheet skills and ability to analyze, sort and accurately report on large volumes of data in a timely manner.
  • EPSI, AggieBudget, and Axiom experience a plus
  • Experience in Tableau: creating and editing dashboard reports
  • Ability to work independently, taking responsibility for projects with input on objectives, with minimal direct supervision.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, internal control concepts, and financial concepts.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate both orally and in writing in a professional, tactful, and effective manner with a broad range of individual styles and managerial levels.
  • Ability to communicate project status with department leadership and identify and resolve issues impacting team performance and/or project outcome.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with word processing, presentation, project tracking, spreadsheet and database packages. Proficient in e-mail and on-line communication programs. Ability to learn new software rapidly. Ability to develop and maintain computerized reports and to quickly and accurately produce reports, presentations and documents.
  • Ability to work under pressure, adapt to changing priorities and produce quality work, while meeting deadlines.
  • Experience in the design of report formats, extraction of data, and development of financial and statistical reports.
  • Experience working with benchmark data (i.e. MGMA, AAMC, Vizient) and evaluating performance compared to benchmarks.
  • Ability to develop innovative solutions to difficult or unusual problems.
  • Ability to interpret various reports, e.g., financial statements, labor distribution reports, the general ledger, health system policies and procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work, clearly communicating status and achieving time lines.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and ability to work effectively in teams.
  • Shows respect for institutional policies, procedures, systems and relationships.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion, and use independent and mature judgment.
  • Ability to develop innovative and sound solutions to difficult and unusual problems.
  • Ability to assume responsibility for coordination and completion of complex projects requiring interactions with many individuals, work with minimal supervision, and take initiative to follow up on projects.

  • Mathematical skills to perform basic statistical and quantitative analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MHA/MBA/Masters of Finance degree.
  • Experience with Funds Flow methodologies
  • Academic medical center/health system experience.
  • Experience using the EPSi budgeting and cost accounting system or other hospital cost accounting system strongly desired
  • SQL server knowledge/experience preferred and willingness to learn data analytic applications.
  • Experience with Tableau or other data visualization software.
