Job Summary The BLS Specialist is responsible for coordinating and teaching all scheduled BLS and Heartsaver/AED courses for Palmetto Health employees/staff as well as external participants, with the assistance of a nurse educator or contract employee. This position is responsible for completing all necessary AHA paperwork for each course, entering the participant information into our database, and processing all certification cards. As a member of the Palmetto Health - USC School of Medicine Simulation Center team, this person will also be cross trained to assist with other functions of the operation as needed. Performs responsibilities required to maintain effective function of the BLS and Heart saver/AED program (i.e. maintaining equipment, classroom supplies, paperwork as needed, etc.) and to streamline the educational processes on all campuses. Coordinates BLS program, schedule, and/or calendar as needed. Oversees BLS training that occurs at the centralized training sites and on clinical units, to ensure the courses occur in a standardized fashion and meet quality standards. Serves as the primary instructor for all BLS courses. Assist with special projects or initiatives as required. Schedules co-instructors as needed from pool of certified instructors. Processes all required AHA paperwork and certification cards for each BLS course. Performs other assignments as directed by supervisor in support of Simulation Center operations. Performs other duties as assigned. Supervisory/Management Responsibilities This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive. Minimum Requirements Education - Two (2) years college in clinical health care field (such as allied health or nursing) preferred. Bachelor's degree preferred. Experience - Four (4) years related work experience. Two (2) years as an AHA Instructor preferred In Lieu Of Equivalent work experience will be considered in lieu of educational requirements. Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses American Heart Association certification for Basic Life Support Instructor and/or Heart saver Instructor - Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Working knowledge of mainstream computer programs (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Ability to learn proprietary software Strong organizational skills Ability to work independently.
