Job Overview:
Physical Therapist position at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center to perform PT evaluations and treatments for the pediatric population in the NICU, PICU and pediatric step down unit. The per diem PT may also cover patients in the High Risk Infant Follow-up Clinic.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Doctorate in physical therapy from an APTA accredited school of physical therapy.
Preferred:
- Pediatric acute care and/or NICU experience
Certifications and Licenses Required:
- Licensed in the State of New Jersey.
- BLS Certification Required. (American Heart Association)
- Successful completion of all Orientation Programs
Scheduling Requirements:
- Days (4-5 hours on Wednesdays and at least 1 other afternoon each week. Up to a total of 8-10 hours per week as well as PTO coverage as needed)

Essential Functions:
- Accurately enters patient charges and submits statistical information in a timely manner
- Administers treatment interventions to meet established goals, adhering to policies, procedures, and precautions at all times
- Modifies treatment as needed based upon clinical judgment and department guidelines
- Appropriately supervises, at the minimum, 2 Physical Therapy / Physical Therapist Assistant students per year; tailors supervision to student s needs, provides appropriate feedback, clarifies expectations, completes required evaluations and regularly confers with CCE & ACCE/DCE
- Arranges observation experiences for students
- Attends patient care rounds appropriate to rotation
- Communicates with all members of patient care team
- Determines plan of care based on PT Evaluation
- Uses clinical judgment when placing patient on PT program or when discharging PT services
- Develops appropriate home therapy programs; makes recommendations for therapeutic and adaptive equipment Identifies and addresses the patient s and family member's educational needs
- Develops goals based on PT evaluation, and the needs of each individual patient, addressing cognitive, physical, emotional, and social needs
- Directly supervises the work of physical therapist assistants and clinical assistants in accordance with PT practice act
- Documents treatment provided and records patient s responses and progress in all appropriate records
- Maintains /makes recommendations for department equipment and supplies; maintains treatment areas
- Maintains productivity to meet department standard on a yearly basis
- Participates in education and training programs for the medical center and community
- Participates in the supervisory process; provides sufficient information on status of patients, projects, and daily responsibilities, etc.
- Seeks supervision when appropriate; accepts and applies comments as appropriate
- Performs other duties as requested by department supervisor and manager
- Screens and identifies patients who may benefit from physical therapy services, and initiates physician referral
- Makes recommendations for services outside of discipline
- Selects and administers appropriate examination techniques
- Evaluates and re-evaluates data to assess patient s level of performance and areas of impairment
- Works scheduled shifts and hours
- Requests time off in accordance with department & hospital policies
