Job Description

The MU Center for Health Policy (CHP), in the College of Health Sciences (CHS), seeks skilled Research Data Analysts to conduct data analysis, analytical studies and evaluation that support and facilitate the planning, policy development, research, and decision-making activities for the Center for Health Policy's increasing volume of research, analytical, and data request projects. (There are two positions available.)

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct all stages of complex research/data analysis, including scoping research questions, designing and executing statistical analyses, exploring and evaluating new datasets, and developing new metrics and algorithms.
  • Compile, analyze, interpret, and assemble qualitative and quantitative data; manage, merge and analyze data from a variety of primary and secondary data sources, including: EHR systems, clinical and public health registries (e.g., cancer registry, vital statistics registries, and Medicare claims via CMS); develop crosswalks, identify gaps, and conduct statistical analysis/reporting.
  • Utilize the administrative claims, provider and eligibility data from MO HealthNet (Missouri Medicaid) as a proxy for clinical outcomes; prepare in-depth reports, summary procedures, conclusions, and articles; translate the findings into recommendations for health policy initiatives.
  • Support the research and evaluation of projects by performing evaluation analysis utilizing claims data; develop, document, and implement assessments, data analysis plans, datasets, and research and evaluation tools/systems to collect, analyze and interpret research.
  • Attend meetings to provide data and analytical support and present findings, as appropriate; provide data analysis as requested to support the production of funder/sponsor reporting and annual reporting.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's or master's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in health sciences, social sciences, or other areas relevant to health policy, with experience in research, project development, data collection and analysis.
  • Three or more years of experience in social science research, including experience in managing, analyzing, and interpreting qualitative and quantitative data. Experience in merging data from multiple platforms and structuring data to answer research questions.
  • Knowledge of large-scale data collection/management, research methodology, and program/project design and implementation.
  • Knowledge of public policy and regulatory reporting related to the federal and state of Missouri Medicaid program, preferably with comprehensive knowledge of administrative and clinical characteristics of Missouri's Medicaid administrative claims, provider, participant, and supporting data.
  • Experience with statistical analysis.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a broad diversity of partners.
Anticipated Hiring Range

This position is grant funded. Employment is contingent upon available grant funding.
