Job Summary

As an HR Generalist, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Chartwells Food Service Operations team at Michigan Tech University in beautiful Houghton, MI.

Houghton is a charming city with a strong connection to nature, mining history, and education. Its location in the picturesque Upper Peninsula makes it a desirable destination for outdoor adventurers and those interested in exploring Michigan's heritage. This lovely city hosts various cultural events and festivals throughout the year, celebrating local traditions, arts, and music. Houghton serves as a gateway to Isle Royale National Park, a remote and pristine wilderness area in Lake Superior. The park is accessible by ferry from Houghton during the beautiful summer months.

You will lead various critical areas including hourly recruitment, onboarding coordination, associate relations, legal compliance, and engagement initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Ownership of recruitment activities, including job postings, screening resumes, and conducting interviews.
* Facilitate the onboarding process for new hires, including the completion of paperwork, orientation sessions, and coordination of schedules.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in the HRIS (Human Resources Information System).
* Process employee status changes, such as promotions, transfers, and terminations.
* Prepare and distribute HR-related documents, including employment contracts, offer letters, and company policies.
* Serve as a point of contact for employee inquiries regarding HR policies and procedures.
* Assist in resolving employee relations issues.
* Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
* Generate HR reports and analytics as needed.
* Coordinate training sessions and workshops, including scheduling, logistics, and participant communication.
* UNION negotiation, grievance and conflict resolution.

QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field preferred.
* Proven experience (1-3 years) in an HR support role or similar capacity.
* Knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws, and regulations.
* Proficiency in HRIS software and MS Office applications.
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
* Detail-oriented and able to maintain confidentiality.
* Team player with a positive attitude and willingness to learn and grow in the HR field.
