Reports To: Associate Director, Public Policy and Advocacy

Department: Public Policy and Advocacy

Location: Washington, DC or remote

Classification: Full-time, Exempt

How will you fight for an AIDS-free generation?

The Public Policy and Advocacy Officer functions as an integral part of the Public Policy and Advocacy (PPA) team. The Officer works on both the U.S. and global policy and advocacy efforts in order to advance EGPAF priorities in the U.S. and around the world. In addition to reinforcing the PPA team, the Officer will manage a portfolio of their own policy areas and/or projects, including crucial policy research, analysis and writing.

No two days are alike at EGPAF, but what can you expect in this role?

Strengthen EGPAF's U.S. Policy and Advocacy Efforts

  • Monitoring and analyzing legislation pertaining to key priorities including global health and development, HIV research, children and maternal health and domestic HIV.
  • Serving as the lead for policy and advocacy activities related to key subject areas such as HIV research and development and/or tuberculosis.
  • Providing robust policy analysis, research and recommendations to the Associate Director of Public Policy and Advocacy, the Vice President of Public Policy and Advocacy and other Public Policy and Advocacy (PPA) team members of key areas of the Associate Officer's policy portfolio.
  • Representing EGPAF in external settings such as community roundtable meetings and on Capitol Hill, including leadership roles within the community.
  • Planning and executing events aimed at key policy audiences.

Support EGPAF's Global Policy and Advocacy Efforts

  • Managing the documentation for the PPA team including creating and updating materials for internal and external audiences.
  • Overseeing team assets including updating the public policy and advocacy section of the website, organizing and tracking materials and asks.
  • Lead critical research and analysis on relevant policy and advocacy issues for U.S. and global efforts. Propose and write internal and external policy briefs to help turn analysis to advocacy action.
  • Actively engaging with other departments within EGPAF on cross-departmental activities as relevant to the strategic goals of the PPA team and the organization.
  • Collaborating with the external affairs team to drive media advocacy on strategic issues relevant for the global PPA team's work.
  • Assisting with other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications

To be successful, you will have:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. Capitol Hill, public policy or global health experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Capable of effectively interacting and communicating with individuals at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks, take initiative, and ensure follow-through.
  • Proven ability to work effectively and manage multiple tasks as a member of a dynamic, inter-departmental team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Independent and interested in analyzing evidence and translating it into advocacy action.

Bonus points if you have:

  • Familiarity and interest in international public health or related fields preferred.
  • French or Portuguese language skills.
Additional Information

Salary Range

The expected salary range for this position is $63,000 - $79,000 annually in the Washington, DC Metro area. This position is exempt and paid a salary. For US-based remote staff, EGPAF uses geographical ranges that are based on the candidate's location and the associated cost of labor.Actual base salary compensation will be determined by factors such as qualifications, experience and training, education and certifications, internal equity, external market data, and budget.
