Job location: Hybrid (Princeton, NJ / Home Office)

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The individual will lead packaging development projects from initiation through launch, including modifications for existing products and new product packaging. They will explore new platforms for advanced package design and materials selection.

The role involves representing the department in cross-functional Strategic Business Unit (SBU) teams, solving problems, managing priorities, and meeting expectations. They are accountable to SBUs for packaging development and support, ensuring quality and consumer expectations are met on schedule.

The individual will collaborate closely with quality, finance, procurement, regulatory, engineering, operations, consultants, and vendors.

POSITION ACTIVITIES
  • Packaging development that incorporates innovative technology, Innovation Design Thinking (IDT), sustainability and recyclability

  • Execute projects with complete scope from primary through tertiary packaging development

  • Generation and execution of test plans and reports

  • Create and maintain project timelines

  • Lead the qualification strategy for new package designs and materials

  • Influence and ideate cost savings initiatives as related to package designs and materials

  • Travel to vendor and manufacturing locations for support of packaging project activities

  • Hands-on evaluation of packaging for conformance to project requirements.

  • Supervision of Packaging Co-Op

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in package development, device or hard goods manufacturing. A preference will be towards candidates that have experience in "consumer goods" packaging areas.

  • Bachelors degree required, focus in Package Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Engineering sciences strongly preferred.

The candidate's experience must clearly demonstrate experience in many of the following areas:

  • Experience in primary through tertiary packaging development for new product launches

  • Management of projects and project teams towards commercialization of new products

  • Successful completion of quality improvement and sustainability initiatives

  • Fully developed skills in project management and experienced, cross-functional interactions

  • Understanding of LSS, SPC and DOE (design of experiments) and development of component specifications

  • Experience in FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis)

  • Packaging development with various materials:

  • Fiberboard, corrugated, injection molded bottles and caps, tubes, pouches, CRC closures, sachets, blisters/backer cards

  • Knowledge or experience with the following a plus: CRC tools, Data analysis tools, Rapid prototyping, Lean Six Sigma tools

OTHER SKILLS NEEDED
  • Clear ability to organize and prioritize a number of Packaging projects

  • Effective leadership and supervisory skills

  • High interpersonal skills to influence partner functions within project team environment

  • Strong communication and presentation skills across the organization at multiple levels

  • A self-motivated and proactive personality with ambitions to "learn and deliver" within a fast paced, "employee empowered" atmosphere

  • High competency in Microsoft applications and general computer usage.
