Chemical Process Operator

Safety is our top priority at Eastman. Process Operators (Operators) contribute to operational excellence by ensuring safe and reliable operations, environmental compliance, and quality production. Operators work both outside and inside areas of the plant. Communication and teamwork is essential, as is the ability to take initiative and act with integrity. This position directly reports to the Team Manager & is located in Pace, FL.Relocation is not offered.

Duties include but are not limited to the following

  • Maintain a continuous focus on safe plant operations and optimal plant performance for assigned area
  • Safely operate pumps, compressors, boilers, distillation columns and other plant equipment within safe operating ranges using proper PPE
  • Operate and monitor control boards, displays, and instrumentation; safely and quickly respond to alarms and/or flashing lights
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and react promptly and safely
  • Safely start up, shut down, and adjust operations processes
  • Climb ladders and columns to access equipment and vessels
  • Draw product samples for lab testing
  • Perform minor maintenance work on equipment
  • Initiate work permits
  • Active participation and compliance with site Total Safety Process


  • Participation on site fire crew and site rescue crew, if needed
  • Must be able to complete operator training program requirements and pass required testing

Education and Skill Requirements

  • Associate degree or certification in Process Technology or Advanced Manufacturing (or related field), OR


High school diploma/GED and 3+ years of operations experience in an industrial/manufacturing role



  • Must have a Zero Incident safety mindset
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to troubleshoot equipment
  • Required to work a 7-day rotating 12-hour schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays. Will be required to work overtime on some off days
  • Ability to work alone outside or in a process area
  • Must have a positive attitude and be a team player
  • Good oral and written communication skills. Must be a strong listener with the ability to follow instructions.
  • Must be dependable and exhibit a strong work ethic.


  • Basic computer skills required. SAP is a plus.
  • Must have ability to successfully advance through operator pay progression program
  • Proficiency in English required

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to wear all required PPE, including flame-retardant clothing and respirator
  • Willing to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights above 100 ft. with appropriate safety equipment
  • Ability to squat, bend, reach, and enter confined spaces
  • Must be able to lift heavy items, occasionally up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work alone
  • Desire and ability to be on plant emergency services team
  • Must be able to pass physical, drug screen and background check
