HJF is seeking an Associate Scientist that will be responsible for developing and supervising research projects and investigating the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products and problems.

This position will be in support of the Department of Pathology at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD in the lab of Dr. Geeta Upadhyay.

This position will support Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) funded breast cancer research. The proposal focused on targeted therapies which will develop novel small molecule based therapeutics to activate the innate and adoptive immune response in tumor microenvironment (TME). The project will discover how the cancer associated antigens on various cell types in breast cancer TME may modulate the local signaling suppressing the immune cells and how small molecule interventions may be used to increase anti-tumor immune response. The research will use breast cancer human samples, mouse models, CRISPR, immune cell culture, antibody mediated approach. The major techniques will include flow cytometry, mouse ip, iv and survival surgery, in vivo animal imaging. We need proficiency in these methods.

Responsibilities

  • Formulate experimental hypotheses and designs experimental protocol.
  • Develops necessary new technologies and protocols.
  • Processes and interprets experimental data.
  • May train and supervise technical staff.
  • Coordinates with other technical and professional staff.
  • Prepares funding documents, written reports, manuscripts for submission to scientific journals, and patent applications. Keeps the data management in compliance with NIH and DOD policy.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • PhD in a related scientific discipline
  • Minimum of 0-2 years experience required

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with flow cytometry, mouse ip, iv and survival surgery, in vivo animal imaging.
  • Breast cancer-immuno-oncology related scientific discipline
  • Knowledge of applicable complex scientific procedures and techniques
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical procedures
  • Ability to work independently and may supervise others.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $57,650-$87,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
