The Operational Risk Department at Goldman Sachs is an independent risk management function responsible for developing and implementing a standardized framework for assessing, monitoring and managing operational risk with the goal of maintaining the firm's exposure to operational risk at levels that are within our risk appetite.

Position Overview:

The External Reporting Risk team is a 2nd Line of Defense (2LoD) team within Operational Risk with a focus on independently overseeing and challenging the risks arising from the firm's various external reporting obligations including statutory / financial, tax, regulatory and other required external reporting to clients or investors. We are seeking an Associate of External Reporting Risk team to support the team's efforts in managing the external reporting operational risks across the Firm. This role requires an understanding of financial institution's external reporting requirements and as well as understanding of operational risk management framework (ORMF) elements. The successful candidate will provide subject matter expertise and contribute to setting the strategic direction in managing external reporting risks of the Firm, oversee proper execution of the Firm's ORMF and collaborate with stakeholders within the Risk Division and across relevant business, operations & control functions of the Firm.

Responsibilities:



  • Working with stakeholders across the firm to further develop and strengthen the operational risk framework whilst providing robust and independent challenge
  • Work with 1st line of defense reporting process owners to develop day to day risk management metrics which quantify exposures to various types of operational risk; monitoring and analyzing these risk measures and metrics
  • Review of significant operational risk events to ensure appropriate remediation plans are implemented
  • Conduct thematic analysis to identify significant or emerging risks, and develop recommendations for mitigating actions to remediate those risks
  • Work with vertical divisional coverage teams within Operational Risk to challenge risk and control self-assessment (RCSA) ratings to ensure appropriate identification and quantification of key risks and controls.
  • Review and evaluate new business initiatives and firm acquisitions to identify changes to the operational risk profile as it relates to external reporting risks and ensure proper controls are in place
  • Remaining current on business drivers, regulatory and industry changes impacting external reporting risks, identifying new or emerging risks to which the firm is exposed
  • Contribute to periodic risk profile assessments using qualitative and quantitative inputs to highlight trends and deeper risk management themes across the external reporting landscape


Qualifications and skills:



  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required
  • 3+ years of experience within the financial services industry in operational risk management or related areas, preferably with subject matter expertise in managing external reporting risks
  • Familiarity with enterprise risk management best-practices and controls, including risk and control assessments
  • Proficiency in data analysis, and risk reporting
  • Understanding of regulatory compliance requirements and industry best practices
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex data and provide strategic insights
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to present with impact and convey complex concepts across senior stakeholder groups
  • Ability to partner effectively with global stakeholders across the firm
  • Ability to influence outcomes and decision making. Able to take a position on issues and present clear recommendations and persuasive rationale for ideas or opinions.
  • Strong analytical abilities, including the use of data and visualization of data to aid strategy discussion with proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Sharepoint. Tableau & SQL are a plus.
  • Ability to handle multiple priority projects at once and to ensure projects are followed through to completion
