Position Summary

Reporting to the ACNO of Imaging and Diagnostic Services, the incumbent will plan, direct, organize, control, and evaluate the operations of the Short Stay Unit. This position has 24X7 responsibilities in this assigned area, including staffing, supplies, and equipment, with responsibility for overall operations, ensuring efficient workflows and patient throughput, and managing personnel, including managers, healthcare technicians, and clerical staff. The role also involves assisting with budgets, human resources, hospital billing, customer relations, and the Unit's financial performance measures. The incumbent will be particularly accountable for the ongoing evaluation of financial performance measures, assessing the department's compliance with various regulatory agencies, and achieving the goals and objectives of the areas of responsibility. They will provide training oversight to all staff related to relevant department policies and procedures, and act as a resource to physicians.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develops a therapeutic relationship with patients, family members, visitors, and colleagues to provide care coordination utilizing evidence-based practice.
  • Interprets and directs the implementation of nursing philosophy and objectives, departmental policies, and procedures and applies recognized standards of practice.
  • Assures organizational policies, procedures and practices are current and evidence-based relative to protocols and develops and modifies as necessary.
  • Plans, selects, and devises nursing operations, work methods, procedures, workflow and standards for quality and quantity of work including staffing standards. Plans and develops patient safety innovations and practice improvement.
  • Plan, assign and review work of staff to ensure that group objectives are met. Hires, trains, develops, and manages staff to ensure that qualified staff exists to meet group objectives.
  • Assign, direct and review the work of subordinate supervisors/other nursing personnel. Prepare formal answers to, and recommend the adjustment of, grievances and disciplinary matters.
  • Prepare budget for assigned area or program and is responsible for adherence to approved budget. Defines capital needs, acquires, and provides oversight of equipment needed to support the critical care outreach program.
  • Establishes, implements, and evaluates quality of care to monitor and evaluate operations for compliance with licensure, accreditation, and regulatory standards.
  • Integrate shared leadership and foster collaboration across multi-disciplinary disciplines to arrive at decisions affecting SSU's site of care.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
  • Illinois Registered Nursing license required.
  • Bachelor's Science Degree in Nursing required.
  • Master's degree in Health Care Administration, Business Administration or Nursing preferred.
  • A minimum of five (5) years clinical nursing management experience with progressive responsibility is required including relevant nursing experience in leadership within procedural area realm (Cath, IR, or Neuro Vascular labs)
  • Strong communication, customer service and decision-making skills, and project management are required. Knowledge of budgetary processes and financial principles; knowledge of labor laws, standards of care, and regulatory standards required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Nursing specialty certification on hire or within 1 year of hire
  • Strong communication, customer service and decision-making skills
  • Progressive leadership knowledge of budgetary processes and financial principles, labor laws, standards of care, and regulatory standards is preferred
  • Experience in an urban setting and/or academic medical center preferred.
  • Team-oriented, with the ability to develop effective working relationships with both staff as well as colleagues across disciplines and functional areas.
