What you'll do:

VyStar's paid internship experience in auditing will provide you with the opportunity to develop organization and time management skills through helping to plan and execute audits. Additionally, this opportunity will develop business acumen by observing and participating in interactions with various levels of employees, Management, and the Audit Committee.

The Audit Team includes internal Audit and IT Audit experience. In both Audit teams, you will gain experience in various operational processes at VyStar including gaining exposure to researching and testing for regulatory compliance. Internships are in Jacksonville. The intern must be able to travel to other VyStar locations. We believe you should enjoy and grow during your internship experience. (9-week internship program, beginning first week of June and concluding the first week of August.)

Throughout the summer, the intern will be assigned to assist the audit team on completion of the annual audit plan. An audit typically lasts 4-6 weeks. This includes:

  • Assisting with planning the audit by reading prior year audit workpapers and researching current applicable policies, procedures, and regulations (1 week during the beginning of the audit).
  • Assisting with audit fieldwork which may include:
    • Attending meetings with a seasoned auditor and the audit client to discuss processes relating to the function in scope
    • Assisting an auditor by performing detailed testing (e.g., loan files, verifying policies include certain regulatory requirements)
    • Performing standard audit tests relating to review of 3rd party contracts, system security, or general ledger reconciliations
    • Obtaining and documenting audit evidence to support reviews performed
  • Working with the Auditor-in-Charge, or VP Internal Audit or VP IT Audit and applicable business line management to understand risks within the function being audited, learn what a control is and how controls apply to the risks identified.
  • Organizing assignments and managing time to ensure tasks are completed by the end of audit fieldwork (usually 2-3 weeks).
  • Participating in periodic stand-up meetings with the audit team to discuss the status of the audit (roadblocks, issues identified, remaining items to complete, etc.)
  • Taking notes when meeting with the audit team, Auditor-in-Charge, and auditing the client to capture and keep track of tasks assigned to the Intern as well as observations during process meetings with the client, which will be needed to document controls during fieldwork.
  • The IT Audit experience will also expose the intern to SQL queries using Microsoft SQL databases with sample audit queries.
  • Attending audit update meetings with the Auditor-in-Charge and applicable business line management to gain exposure with communicating audit findings, recommendations, and/or
  • Discuss any misunderstandings or new information to resolve an audit finding. (Once a week)
  • Meeting with the Auditor-in-Charge and/or VP Internal Audit Address to discuss review notes (e.g., comments/corrective action on documented audit work from fieldwork) and determine next steps to remediate those comments. (1 week at the end of the audit)
  • Attending the draft report meeting with the Auditor-in-Charge and applicable business line management to observe discussion on the reportable audit issues and recommendations.
  • All employees and business units, as first line of defense, are expected to proactively help identify, assess, manage, and report risks within their domain of work. To enhance a healthy risk culture and support our growth for good pillar, employees will maintain vigilance in safeguarding our operations while ensuring compliance with regulatory mandates. The Risk team serves as the second line of defense by providing risk oversight and credible challenge whereas the Audit team serves as the third line of defense by providing risk assurance.

Education & Qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree at an accredited college/university
  • Rising College Juniors, Seniors, or Graduate Students
  • Strong written and communication skills
  • Flexibility to work with multi-disciplined teams
  • Strong use of Microsoft Office Tools
  • GPA of 3.0 preferred
  • Participation in college organizations and the community
