YMCA of Greater Houston's Executive Director of Community Outreach & Engagement supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This position will lead the department's focus on the expansion of its community outreach efforts in under-resourced communities in collaboration with community partners in alignment to the Association's strategic vision. The Executive Director of Community Outreach & Engagement will ensure a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while inspiring youth to discover their passions. This position will enthusiastically represent the Y by displaying a positive attitude, maintaining a high level of energy and commitment to quality throughout all aspects of the job.

The Executive Director of Community Outreach & Engagement will be responsible for providing operational guidance and strategic leadership to the outreach department. The position will also be responsible for leveraging additional resources and services available through new and expanded partnerships with other community-based organizations and prioritize the placement of these resources and services in targeted YMCA centers serving high concentrations of historically underserved populations.

Essential Functions:


  1. Leadership: Lead the strategic implementation and daily operations of outreach department, in alignment with the Association mission, vision, goals, and strategic vision

  1. Community Engagement: Identify, engage and maintain strategic partnerships with key community stakeholders to expand services and resources at targeted YMCA centers located in historically underserved communities.

  1. Supervision: Oversees the hiring, training, supervision and overall accountability of Outreach staff.
  2. Financial Development: Ensure all outreach efforts are fully funded through philanthropic and strategic business efforts, in collaboration with Philanthropy department. Work with the Philanthropy to identify key funding partners to support outreach expansion efforts, with the intention of closing any existing funding gap.
  3. Fiscal Management: Develops, manages, and monitors the overall operating budget to meet and/or exceed budget targets. Conduct department program analysis on assigned sites to include pricing structure, growth opportunities, funding opportunities and other needs. Expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.

  1. Center Engagement: Develop and maintain positive relationship with center leadership and Association board to ensure support of community outreach efforts.

  1. Relationship Building: Develops and maintains relationships with center leadership, community partners, apartment owners, public agencies, other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Resolves escalated inquires, issues, and complaints by internal YMCA departments/centers, parents, schools and community agencies in a timely manner.
  2. Annual Campaign: Leads annual staff campaign to meet department goals.
  3. Represents the YMCA of Greater Houston at local and national workgroups, committees, and conferences related to community development.
  4. Ensures the safety and maintenance of Y owned and operated facilities, grounds, and equipment utilized for out of school programming.
  5. Serves as a member of the leadership round table, support the overall objectives of the Y.
  6. Coordinates all volunteer opportunities, to further advance the Y mission and add greater value to our programs.
  7. Provide association wide leadership to assigned specialty areas.
  8. Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  9. Follows mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements.
  10. Meet timelines and deadlines related to supporting systems and employee compliance. Example includes but are not limited to Kronos Workforce Ready for review and approval of time sheets.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology.

Qualifications:


  1. Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, business or equivalent.
  2. Six or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other not-for-profit agency.
  3. Ability to direct total operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of center budget, marketing and public relations, and program development.
  4. Experience in management and development of volunteer involvement; ability to recruit top community leaders to support our out of school efforts.
  5. Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations
  6. Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  7. YMCA Multi-Team or Center Leader certification preferred.
  8. CPR and First Aid certifications as well as YMCA Compliance training required.
  9. Fulfillment of state/licensing specific hiring standards and completion of YMCA program specific certifications.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Possess adequate vision and hearing to safely monitor sports programming. Ability to perform all tasks demanded from employees inclusive of but not limited to sitting and standing for long periods of time, able to work in both indoor and outdoor weather conditions for extended periods of time and an ability to perform computer work for lengthy hours of operation.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, policies and procedures, correspondence, and emails. Ability to write simple correspondence, reports, and policies and procedures for program areas. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to resolve routine problems. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to be sensitive and alert to the needs, feelings, and safety of others.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time exempt position. This position frequently requires long hours and weekend work.

Travel

Travel is 50%-75%, primarily locally to assigned centers within business unit in the Greater Houston area during the business day. Some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
