Atlantic Tactical, United Uniform, and Lawmen's make up The Safariland Group's retail and distribution business consisting of 9 retail locations ranging from the Carolina's through New York. Based on our tremendous growth we are adding to our Retail Team and have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Assistant Store Manager to be based at our Somerset, NJ, location.
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for supporting the Store Manager with supervision in all aspects of daily activities in the retail store, sewing production department, and warehouse areas. The Assistant Store Manager (ASM) is expected to implement Company policies, conduct associate training and ensure a high level of performance is maintained in each of the aforementioned areas. The ASMs report directly to their Store Manager to advise them of progress reports, problems, or significant developments. The Assistant Store Manager is expected to be present during hours that the store is open and, depending upon work volume, in excess of these hours. The ASMs will be responsible for working some Saturdays as well and occasionally covering for unattended shifts as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Cleanliness - All areas of the store, warehouse, and sewing area are expected to be clean and orderly
- The store shall be vacuumed each day
- Counter tops must be kept clear at all times.
- Customers are to be given quick and courteous service
- Associates are expected to greet/acknowledge each customer upon entry to the store regardless of other tasks
- Work with the Store Manager to resolve customer complaints or problems by determining optimal solutions Processing Orders
- All purchase orders received via email, fax or mail should be processed the same day
- If there are outstanding questions, prompt follow up is expected to resolve those issues
- Documentation of this follow-up is also required Policies and Procedures
- Constantly reinforce company policies and procedures
- Support management's opinion in the event of any disagreement Attendance
- Ensure that all associates report to work on time, take their breaks at the scheduled time and provide for adequate staffing during all hours of operation
- Assist the Store Manager with creating a schedule that will maximize associate productivity and store profitability Product Knowledge
- Become proficient with all products currently sold by the Company
- Able to answer technical questions and provide adequate training to staff members Quality Control
- Management is the last line of defense for quality control
- Verify that orders are being filled accurately and methodically
- Resolve problems before orders are released to customers Hiring & Firing
- Assist the store manager in candidate evaluation and interviewing
- Provide the Store Manager with observation and documentation regarding current associate performance and issues Associate Review
- Assist the Store Manager with associate reviews and plans by providing insight and observations
- At the Store Manager's or Company's discretion, assist with training Work Environment
- Responsible for creating a positive working environment
- Address associate concerns/issues in a timely manner Inventory Control
- Responsible for implementing proper inventory security systems and measures
- Conduct inventory counts to be done annually or more frequently if needed
- Supervise staff in the store, sewing area, and warehouse that will include coordination of work, training, discipline and scheduling
- Although directed by the Store Manager, the ASM is expected to act independently when Store Manager is not present
- In order to avoid backups, be aware of the current status of work in all departments
QUALIFICATIONS
- Computer proficiency
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong leadership skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to lift up to 30lbs
- Ability to adhere to Company policies and procedures
- Ability to adhere to Company safety policies and procedures
- Must be able to present a clean, professional image
- Must be able to keep work environment clean, presentable, and safe
- Ability to pass criminal background check
- Must have a record of stability with employment history
- Must have an 'owners not renters' mentality
- Supervise staff in the store, sewing area, and warehouse that will include coordination of work, training, discipline and scheduling
- Although directed by the Store Manager, the ASM is expected to act independently when Store Manager is not present - In order to avoid backups, be aware of the current status of work in all departments EXPERIENCE
- Minimum two years of management experience
- Three (3) to five (5) years management experience
- Two (2) years written performance appraisal experience, having applied SMART goals
- High school diploma or GED equivalent is required
- Associate's degree preferred
