Protective is searching for a Business Systems Analyst to join the Protective Life Automated Retirement Products Application Systemsteameither as full-time work from home, or as a full-time employee working some days from home and others from our Birmingham, AL corporate headquarters.The position provides an opportunity to work in an agile team environment under the general direction of more experienced Business System Analysts and Developers. Our team is responsible for the enhancements, maintenance, and support.
Provides complex business consulting support to the Information Technology (IT) staff and customers, to analyze some of the proposed changes, enhancements, and other needs relative to the assigned system(s), to certify changes made to these system(s), to develop and maintain certain system values and settings, and to influence others in IT and customer areas through teaching/sharing of knowledge and/or leadership roles.

Responsibilities:
  • The Business Systems Analystis responsible forgathering requirements,writing user stories, collaborating onimplementation approaches with software developers, testing and supporting software systems.
  • Makes recommendations for better utilizing the available technology to the business.
  • Diagnoses system issues with the help of log files, SQL database research and system-provided information and collaborates with software developers tofind solutions to business system problemsin a timely manner.
  • Using a structured approach, writes and keepsuser stories up to date.
  • Ensures that user story acceptance criteria are all-encompassing including negative and regression test cases, edge scenarios, and accounts for all integrations.
  • Works with developers, product owners, managers, internal system users and people from other development teams that have a stake or dependency in any requested system work to review user stories and acceptance criteria to make sure they are complete and accurate.
  • Consults with end-users concerning issues and troubleshooting of any of our systems in a calm and professional manner.
  • Under general guidance will take the lead on project initiatives including cross-team communication/collaboration, cross-system testing and timeline tracking/updating.
Work Experience, Education, Certification/Training Required:
  • 3+ years as a Business Systems Analyst
  • Knowledge of SQL Server Management Studio 2012 or higher, HTML, XML
  • Typically, a post-secondary degree, preferably in Management Information Services or Computer Science related field may substitute for work and/or technical experience
  • Certifications in industry related or discipline related organizations are desirable (LOMA, IIBA, or related coursework)
  • ACORD Life & Annuity Standard XML format experience is a plus
Knowledge and Abilities Required:
  • Must have strong data analysis and data manipulation skills
  • Must be able to manage multiple, changing priorities, resolve conflicts and be able to work calmly under pressure
  • Must be self-motivated, able to work independently, willing to self-teach and take responsibility for ongoing professional development
  • Critical thinking skills are a pre-requisite
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Basic understanding in the areas of application programming, database and system design is required.
  • Experience interacting with API functionality and usage for issue diagnosis and system testing is preferred
  • Experience in agile software development methodologies is a plus
  • Knowledge / experience in the Life Insurance industry is a plus

Protective's targeted salary range for this position is $61,000 to $89,475. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to, job location, skills, and experience. The range listed is just one component of Protective's total compensation package for employees.
This position also offers additional incentive opportunities through an annual incentive based on individual and Company performance.
