Description

Essential Duties:



  • Evaluates terminal gate/reefer activity and assesses 3rd party revenue opportunities where appropriate.
  • Ensures M&R agreements are billed accurately and timely.
  • Constantly monitors and evaluates ILA 1804 activities ensuring all possible value added services are captured as revenue generating events.
  • Direct all reefer related activity between vessel, yard and gate operations.
  • Direct all shop repairs for non-container terminal equipment.
  • Monitor efficiency of union labor on their repair and maintenance of customer containers and chassis.
  • Communicate with line representatives on out of service equipment and cost of repairs.
  • Interface with US Customs and other government agencies to facilitate their inspections of customers' containers.
  • Ensure that customer bookings are met for pre-trip and gen-set requirements.
  • Coordinate daily labor orders for M&R and Reefer Operations.
  • Ensure good communication between Maintenance and Terminal Operations to minimize equipment downtime and maximize gate operation fluidity.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance schedules and KPI's are adhered to for terminal equipment.
  • Monitor all expenditures for M&R and Reefer Operations and adhere to budgeted levels for all departments.
  • Ensure safety, health, and environmental standards are met throughout the operation.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings within all departments of responsibility.
  • Oversee and approve all labor payroll sheets.

  • Invoicing and knowledge of contract rates.




Shift - 7am-4pm Monday through Friday. Occasional Saturday based on business demand.

Physical Attributes:



  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, occasional sitting.
  • The ability to climb up and down stairs and equipment multiple times within a shift.
  • Requires physical ability to work on a ship and in a yard.
  • The ability to use a computer/keyboard.
  • The ability to work in changing hot and cold climates based on weather conditions.
  • The ability to work in an environment with moving objects and machinery, the environment may be hazardous to persons unable to see or hear fast moving heavy equipment.



Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelors degree in any discipline OR 6+ years supervisory experience in operations or maintenance and IICL Certification is preferred.
  • 2+ years of management experience in a maintenance/terminal environment.
  • Requires the ability to obtain a TWIC Card issued by the Department of Homeland Security.
  • Requires the ability to obtain a Pier Superintendent License issued by NJ State Police.
  • A valid Driver's License in good standing is required.



    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:



    • Knowledge of terminal operations, planning and stevedore operations.
    • Demonstrated leadership and experience managing union contracts and union labor.
    • Knowledge of the applicable union work rules, collective bargaining agreements and Federal and state wage and hour laws; Experience in placing daily labor hiring orders to staff entire terminal.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with union and management staff.
    • High level of planning and organizational skills.
    • Requires ability to respond quickly and adapt to changes.
    • Requires the ability to plan and organize multiple projects in fast paced environment.
    • Knowledge of and commitment to safety and accident prevention, safety codes and regulations, and related industry governmental regulations.
    • Knowledge of OSHA Standards and procedures.
    • Exceptional time management, due to fast-moving, demanding work environment.
    • Experience and proficiency with computerized operating systems, terminal operating systems and other relevant technology such as NAVIS/SPARCS software.
    • Must be computer literate; proficient with Microsoft Office - Outlook, Word, and Excel.
    • Requires the availability to work varied hours and shifts including days, nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
