This role is being offered as a contract employment.

Applies advanced technical project management frameworks and methods to resolve highly complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Determines methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to obtain results. Manages projects of broad and diverse scope, size, impact, budget, and/or project team size, with considerable impact on the organization.

This contract position will be required to lead the Enterprise Application components of a two-hospital transition from current platforms deployed to UCSF standard applications. This technical project manager should have an exceptional understanding of human resources, financial, and web applications, as well as other core infrastructure and application components to help lead the transition activities. This position will help drive the immediate day one transition activities that will occur when the hospitals and clinics are officially converted to UCSF ownership as well as the planning required to support the long-term transition activities.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $124,400 - $291,600 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

UCSF IT is technologically and organizationally complex, with both centralized and departmental IT units providing support for enterprise and specialized services. UCSF IT provides infrastructure, network, security, analytics, integration, and application support services, essential to the organization's ability to support growth, mitigate security risk, and manage, store and share sensitive information. The IT Project Management office support collaboration and value delivery though definition of standards supportive of delivering projects at scale. The IT Project Management office orchestrates project execution, ensuring strategic alignment, optimal resource allocation and value creation.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Requires advanced knowledge of project management principles, theories, and concepts.
  • Requires ability to assess campus, medical center or Office of the President needs for information technology products and design services to meet those needs.
  • Working knowledge of technology-related initiatives and an understanding of the impact on the organization of such initiatives.
  • Demonstrated capacity to anticipate obstacles and plan for contingencies. Demonstrated attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to determine relevance and prioritize tasks.
  • Demonstrated effective writing skills.
  • Proven leadership ability. Effective problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to put forth persuasive arguments.
  • Effective skill at tracking effort and project progress. Demonstrated strong conceptual and planning skills to analyze projects of broad and diverse scope. Demonstrated expert organization and project management skills. Understand the cost impact of projects, project tracking tools, and metrics.
  • Experienced mentor and leader of teams with experience leading a team of Enterprise Application professionals.
  • Advanced knowledge of all aspects of computing and communications including hardware infrastructure, networking, Enterprise Application software, operations and disaster recovery.
  • Has a thorough understanding of how programs relate to other business strategies and initiatives. Demonstrated ability to integrate critical information across disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with executive-level management on a regular basis.
  • Experience analyzing highly complex projects with broad impact to the institution. Demonstrated ability to manage project progress within time and budget constraints.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative manner in order to achieve results that are significant in scope.

  • Professional certification preferred.
