What Does the Engineering Design Principal Do?

As an Engineering Design Principal at P2S, you will shape and drive the technical vision behind large-scale projects, ensuring high-quality engineering solutions from concept through completion. You'll oversee and mentor interdisciplinary design teams, maintain and refine engineering standards, and collaborate closely with clients and stakeholders to address complex design challenges. In this senior leadership role, you will also spearhead business development efforts by cultivating client relationships, preparing proposals, and strategically growing P2S's presence across diverse markets.

Position Requirements



  • Required:

    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
    • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) license
    • Minimum 15 years of experience designing large or complex construction and/or infrastructure projects
    • Proven ability to lead design projects and direct teams of design engineers
    • Demonstrated project management skills
    • Strong record-keeping and organizational skills
    • Must be a U.S. Citizen


  • Preferred:

    • Familiarity with California State Codes, including HCAi/OSPD and DSA
    • Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD
    • Master's degree in Engineering
    • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite




Technical/Software Expertise



  • National Building Codes (required)
  • California State Codes (preferred)
  • HCAi/OSPD (preferred)
  • DSA (preferred)
  • Revit and AutoCAD (plus)
  • Microsoft Office Suite (strongly encouraged)


Key Job Duties

Engineering Leadership



  • Lead engineering design for large and complex projects across market segments
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of drawings, specifications, and technical reports
  • Mentor junior and mid-level team members, encouraging growth and innovation
  • Maintain and develop company engineering standards
  • Proactively learn and implement the latest technologies for P2S projects and clients


Business Development



  • Prepare proposals independently for large-scale projects
  • Partner with market and regional leaders to pursue new projects and client relationships
  • Contribute technical expertise to proposal content and interview presentation materials
  • Represent P2S in industry organizations and events


Project Management



  • Manage multiple large-size projects, including scope, schedule, and budget
  • Coordinate with senior engineers, sub-consultants, and stakeholders to ensure project success
  • Monitor technical accuracy and financial performance to deliver projects on time and within budget

  • Salary Range: $150,000 - $210,000 (commensurate with experience)
