THE POSITION

We are looking for diligent, energetic, and enthusiastic individuals to join our dental team in the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Coal Township. If you have experience in the field of dentistry and a commitment towards helping others, we invite you to apply! DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Dental Assistant at the Department of Corrections, you will collaborate with skilled dentists to deliver essential dental care, in a compassionate and professional manner, to those who are incarcerated at SCI Phoenix. Within this role, you will assist the dentist during the examination and treatment of patients, schedule appointments and maintain call lists, and ensure logistics and schedules are well maintained throughout the business day. You will also be responsible for filing and maintaining dental records, providing chair-side assistance, general upkeep of office equipment, and performing dental laboratory procedures.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours/week.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $35,306.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in a dental office or clinic; or
  • Successful completion of an accredited Dental Assisting certificate program; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • You must have successfully completed the Radiation Health and Safety (RHS) Exam as required by the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
