Executive Director Global Patient Services

Description The Executive Director, Global Patient Services will be responsible for executing on the strategic vision of the global services department. The Executive Director will execute operations in a way to realize the objectives of the strategic plan set forth by the President and CEO of Children's National. The Executive Director will lead the department, holding leadership responsibility for the business and operational management of the Global Services Department at Children's National Hospital. The Executive Director is responsible for international business development and execution of international and marketing activities aimed to develop, maintain, and increase international patient volume at Children's National. The Executive Director will establish new and maintain ongoing relationships with Government agencies as well as the former, current, and potential international families, referring physicians, and embassy staff. The executive director will work with the EVP in executing the plan to grow and diversify the patient referral business, establish new partnerships, and referrals relationships with new institution types (e.g. insurance international companies). Will also oversee existing, and develop new, affiliations with select international hospitals as well as corporate and government contract/PPA's. Will oversee the operations of the Global Services Patient Center and associated support staff of 24 FTE's. Responsible for the coordination of international referrals and all associated logistics including oversight of directors, regional and referral coordinators, financial counselors, corporate representatives, and office support personnel. Work in partnership with the medical director of Global Services in coordinating international referrals, visiting physician programs, management of in-country consultants, and physician outreach. The position requires international travel at least 40% of the time.
Qualifications

Minimum Education
MBA Master's Degree in Business Administration, International Business or a related field. (Required)
Medical Doctor (M.D.) Medical Degree. (Preferred)

Minimum Work Experience
10 years At least 10 years of demonstrated success in international business in a managerial position directly responsible for new business development in a quaternary care level academic medical center. (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge
English, proficiency. Arabic and Spanish language competency preferred.
Requires excellent communication and presentation skills.
Broad multi-cultural understanding and flexibility to work successfully in an international environment.
Competency in windows based computer software (word processing, financial spreadsheets, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
Ability to interact with high level professionals both internally and externally and in international settings.
Able to direct and successfully complete a variety of projects with minimal supervision.
Analytical ability and flexibility to resolve and deal with multi-faceted issues.
Excellent interpersonal, presentation and organizational skills and professional demeanor.

Functional Accountabilities
Global Services Strategy and Operations



  • Successfully execute global strategic plan and oversee the promotion of key service lines in target markets.


  • Oversee the operations of the Global Services Patient Center and associated support staff, including the care coordination operations and processes for patients and families.


  • Interface with hospital divisions and other administrative departments as required to support patient operations and create and execute processes that advance the objectives of the department


  • Responsible for the coordination of international referrals and all associated logistics including oversight of directors, regional and referral coordinators, financial counselors, corporate representatives, and office support personnel.


  • Oversee the coordination of special handling patients (VIP, dignitaries, etc.) with appropriate hospital personnel.


  • Coordinate international physician activities as part of Global Services, including visiting physician programs, international symposium, management of in-country consultants, and physician outreach.


  • Prepare and deliver internal and external presentations to diverse audiences relating to Children's National delivery of services and capabilities for global marketing.


  • Perform other job related duties and special projects as assigned by the Executive Vice President or CEO.


  • Effectively manage all account receiveables.


Relationship Management



  • Establish new and ongoing relationships with former, current and potential international families and referring physicians.


  • Oversee embassy and other third party payor relationships.


  • Oversee existing and develop new affiliations with select international hospitals as well as corporate and government contracts.


  • In collaboration with the EVP provide Board education regarding global initiatives and interact at high levels with external and internal audiences.


  • Develop quarterly International Patient Activity Report and associated financial performance reports.


  • Direct and supervise assigned personnel, including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation and training. Make recommendations on employee hire, transfer, promotion, wage change, discipline, termination and similar actions.


Budget and Reports



  • Build the budget for the department with the EVP.


  • Oversee finance functions for the department, including reporting, billing and collections.


  • Develop operational reporting routines for the division. Work with the Clinical Manger and the Medical Director to improve reporting processes and turnaround times, specifically as it relates to patient onboarding/intake.


  • Build the breadth and depth of the department human capacity through skill development, competency assessment, succession planning and career development.
