Job Description

As a Research Scientist, you will be an expert in biostatistics and collaborate with biomedical investigators in planning studies ranging from laboratory-based to community-based research. You must ensure compliance with statistical principles when designing experiments or observational studies. The Research Scientist will develop hypothesis-testing strategies and analyze data to model biological observations and individual clinical and/or population data. The Research Scientist will design efficient trials and experiments, including calculating and determining sample size. The Research Scientist will plan, write, and prepare biostatistical sections of research proposals, manuscripts, articles, and abstracts. The Research Scientist will also identify or develop new statistical methods requiring programming computer-intensive statistical methods. The Research Scientist will serve as the principal investigator on OSU grants subcontracts and statistical methodology proposals, if appropriate, according to intellectual contributions to the study.

The Research Scientist will perform research on new methods, make recommendations regarding research procedures, manage and oversee the selection and design of research methodologies used for data analysis, and establish research procedures. The Research Scientist will direct and manage grant budgets, troubleshoot problems, and advise staff and researchers on new technology and trends in biostatistics. The Research Scientist must obtain significant funding in support of their salary by promoting the inclusion of biostatistics collaboration in research proposals and MOUs. The Research Scientist will write and contribute to developing manuscripts, articles, abstracts, and reports for publication in peer-reviewed journals. The Research Scientist will be expected to attend and present findings at national and international conferences and workshops. The Research Scientist will collaborate with other researchers to determine priorities and plan research programs.

The Research Scientist will develop and conduct educational workshops, lectures, and seminars. The Research Scientist will oversee graduate students and other staff members and train junior investigators, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students. Moreover, the Research Scientist must actively contribute to the administrative, educational, and operational activities of the Center by serving on Center, College, and University committees. Completing additional duties as assigned should also be anticipated.

For this position we are seeking a highly motivated research scientist specializing in clinical trial statistical design and analysis. The ideal candidate will have expertise, or willingness to develop expertise in developing innovative statistical methods for clinical trials, including Bayesian trial design and pragmatic trial design. They will collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams to advance clinical research in areas such as adaptive designs and precision medicine.

Minimum Education Required
A PhD in biostatistics, statistics, or a related field is required.

Additional Education Desired

Coursework in epidemiology, public health, biology, or medicine is desired.

Required Qualifications

The incumbent will have authored several publications of considerable interest and value to the field. Proficiency in statistical programming utilizing software such as R and SAS and expertise in database management systems are required. Skills in developing grant proposals, writing research papers, and collaborating within a research environment are strongly desired.

Successful completion of a background check and pre-employment physical, including a drug screen, is required.
