Job Summary

Under general direction of the Chief Administrative Officer within the Vice Chancellor for Research (VCR) Office, the position provides administrative, financial and business operation support. The supports involve purchasing, vendor payments, travel and entertainment expense reports review, payroll, financial reporting, financial data processing and analysis, telecommunication services. Responsibilities also include presenting financial and operational information to an array of stakeholders including but not limited to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) within the Vice Chancellor for Research (VCR) office and research units' financial management team/leaderships.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Experience in procurement, accounts payable and T&E policies.
  • Experience preparing various types of financial transactions in an enterprise financial system (i.e. A/P, AIR, purchasing, travel reimbursements and/or expense transfers).
  • Possess good interpersonal and communications skills to establish and maintain professional, collaborative working relationships with diverse groups including faculty, executive leadership, senior academic/administrative officers, and staff.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), techniques to apply to budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Alignment with UC Davis' principles of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion goals and initiatives.
  • Basic accounting knowledge such as general ledger entries, double-entry accounting, and recognizing expenses and revenues. Proficient using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint or equivalent programs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience performing analyses utilizing complex spreadsheets, working with large volume of data via databases, and web-based accounting & information systems.
  • Experience in understanding service/recharge rates for self-supporting operations.
  • Experience in understanding research administration and C&G management.
  • Experience with statistical data collection techniques and quantitative analysis.
  • Knowledge of public sector business practices, entrepreneurial operations, and fund management.
  • Knowledge of University of California, Davis, policies and procedures pertaining to financial administration, payroll, personnel, and other business-related activities.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to assist in other areas of the department when needed.
  • Effectively establish priorities, organize tasks, and direct effective implementation of tasks in a demanding work environment.

Department Overview

This position is part of the Office of Research (OR) - VCR Office - OR Operations Unit and manages time-sensitive and complex accounting and finance actions critical to the advancement of research support. In supporting senior leaders, assigned work can be confidential and require a degree of discernment. Assigned work will often have a short time frame for completion, entail complex and detailed components, and have expectations for a high degree of accuracy.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
