About the Department
The Department of Agricultural and Human Sciences educates students in agriculture and youth, family, and community sciences, finds solutions to problems, and extends knowledge to create healthy communities for youth and families. We do this through academic programs in agricultural and extension education and youth, family, and community sciences that are offered at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Essential Job Duties
The Department of Agricultural and Human Sciences seeks an Extension Associate to provide leadership in the area of State Plates Program. As the Safe Plates Extension Associate, primary responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development, branding, maintenance, and instructor support for programming throughout the state, coordinating and leading in-person and online retail food safety training.
  • Develop resources to supplement training programs and for Safe Plates' social media content.
  • Conduct evaluations of Safe Plates and Steps to Health programs; developing, executing, and reporting on short-term contract retail food safety research projects such as observational studies and assessments; administration and invoicing for classes.
  • Design, update, and create retail food safety curricula.
  • Create food safety content and providing food safety support to Steps to Health programs.
  • Provide technical expertise and training to NC Cooperative Extension Agents and other partners for all retail food safety programs (including Safe Plates for Food Managers, Safe Plates for Food Handlers, and Safe Plates for School Nutrition Staff).
  • Contribute to proposal writing.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • MS in Food Science, Public Health, or other closely related field;


Other Required Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of consumer and retail food safety.
  • Experience in using Online learning management systems, as well as experience with developing learning content, delivering training, conducting evaluations, and writing reports.


Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Food Science, Public Health, or other closely related field preferred
  • 5 years of experience is preferred.
