Introduction
Undergraduate and graduate students who are currently enrolled in the University of New Haven are eligible to apply for this special Internship Program.
Intern placements must be approved by both the student's academic advisor and the corresponding department's hiring team. Selected students may be required to sign a basic release regarding background information checks and a confidentiality agreement.
This internship is available beginning in February and offers up to 20 hours per week. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS The City of New Haven Department of Police Services is seeking to hire multiple UNH Interns to work directly with police data in its' Intelligence Center. Candidates must have the ability to exercise sound judgement of when reviewing and entering crime-related data. The work performed requires a high degree of accuracy and the ability to perform audits of all crime data entered. This is position requires project-based data entry activities and related clerical duties. Work is performed under the direction of the respective supervisor and is subject to review and audit.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Must be undergraduate or graduate student who is currently enrolled in an accredited college course at the University of New Haven.

SALARY, BARGAINING UNIT & TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT This is a grant-funded position that is anticipated to expire in September 2025.
This intern position is not eligible to receive medical benefits, vacation pay, sick pay, union membership, or union contractual benefits. Any period of part time employment will not be construed in any way to mean probationary employment. Persons may not be employed in two concurrent part time positions with the City and/or the Board of Education at the same time.
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of: (1) a pre-employment background check, and (2) a pre-employment drug screening accordance with the City's Drug Free Workplace Policy*.
Candidates selected for internship will be required to sign a Confidentiality Agreement and a Release of Information in order to perform a background check. The New Haven Police Department will use this background check to verify information provided on the application and other relevant information regarding background and character.
*Pursuant to the Federal Drug Free Workplace Act of 1988, The City of New Haven has a adopted a Drug Free Workplace Policy. The City of New Haven requires a pre-employment drug test, which includes screening for marijuana. Selection Plan Applications will be reviewed by the Department of Human Resources and the Police Department.
