As one of the largest academic departments of the School of Medicine at UC Irvine, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is separated into specific clinical divisions including the major areas of Complex Family Planning, General Obstetrics and Gynecology, Gynecologic Oncology, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Obstetric-Gynecologic Hospitalists, and Urogynecology to provide a full range of clinical services including well-woman care, family planning, routine and high-risk pregnancy management, laparoscopic and robotic surgery, pelvic floor medicine, and complex treatment of gynecologic cancer. In addition, the department offers a wide array of continuing medical education programs addressing obstetric and gynecologic topics, as well as generates cutting edge, innovative research.


Your Role on the Team

Under direction of the Department Administrator, administer academic and staff personnel matters for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Serve as a key resource on personnel/payroll matters providing analysis, policy interpretation, advice and counsel to managers and supervisors and all members of the department. Facilitate compliance to system-wide, campus, departmental policies and procedures and collective bargaining unit agreements. Strong, independent judgment, problem solving, analytical and organizational skills required. Broad knowledge of human resource and payroll issues and practices, as well as an understanding of local, state and federal employment and labor laws also required. HR Draft new job descriptions: update and classify existing job descriptions. Supervise two employees under Academic Affairs and HR umbrella within department.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Requires strong knowledge of organization and system academic HR polices, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Requires political acumen and risk management awareness to prevent potentially litigious personnel actions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the academic review process.
  • Able to provide guidance and coaching of process and policies to individual academics, unit management, and various committee groups.

Preferred:

  • Able to interpret complex academic HR policies and procedures with risk management exposure to the organization.
  • Strong decision making, analytical, problem solving, critical thinking, and resource management skills.
  • 1-3 Years administrative/human resource experience
