MH Lead Behavioral Health Navigator Non-RN Ex

Summary:

The Lead Behavioral Health Navigator assists the Senior Director of Emergency Behavioral Health Services in managing the throughput of behavioral health crisis patients in the Emergency Department. The Lead Behavioral Health Navigator works directly with the behavioral health crisis team to ensure timely crisis evaluations coordinated collection of collateral information appropriate determination of patient dispositions and referrals and collaboration with outside agencies and facilities in accordance with professional standards and regulations.

Responsibilities:

The Lead Behavioral Health Navigator:

* Performs all of the functions of a Behavioral Health Navigator including conducting initial emergency interviews and diagnostic evaluations to determine level of care; collecting collateral information to support decision-making; submitting appropriate forms to state and regulatory agencies; coordinating with Access Clinicians for inpatient psychiatric referrals; manage referrals for lower levels of care; completing appropriate documentation in the EMR; and complete insurance authorizations as needed

* Manages the assignment of patients to the Behavioral Health Navigator team

* Provides training and guidance to new Behavioral Health Navigators

* Provides case consultation to Behavioral Health Navigators in complex situations

* Functions as department liaison to DMH other state agencies and insurance companies to ensure collaboration and compliance

* Maintains the daily behavioral health census of new and boarding behavioral health patients.

* Ensures the appropriate updating of patient mental status and level of care for boarding patients

* Monitors patient length of stay and escalate as appropriate

* Assists in creating the monthly schedule for Behavioral Health Navigators and Access Clinicians

Performs other duties as assigned.

    Other information:

    EDUCATION:

    * Master*s Degree or higher education in mental health discipline.

    * Independently licensed with a Massachusetts state issued clinical practice license (e.g. LICSW LMHC).

    EXPERIENCE:

    The Lead Behavioral Health Navigator must have a solid foundation in mental health care including 3-5 years of clinical experience (preferably in a hospital environment) relevant certifications and a commitment to upholding the highest standards of ethical practice.

    Additionally successful candidates will possess excellent communication skills resilience and the capacity to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals in a high paced setting.
