Qualifications
Summary Description: This position is responsible for supervising continual safe, economic, and efficient production in the Fiberline Department. Provides first level supervision for hourly production to assure safe and efficient work. A principal objective of this position is to provide leadership for the development of the crews into self-sufficient, productive teams that are supporting and driving efforts to continually improve the safety, productivity and quality performance of the business area. Key Accountabilities:
- Assist in managing all aspects of the Fiberline Area along with the Recovery and Utility operations at the Escanaba Mill.
- Fiberline Area operations include Woodyard, Kraft Mill (Bleached Fiber), Pulp Make Down, Lime Kiln, and Refined Mechanical Pulp Mill.
- The recovery and utility operations include recovery boilers, power boilers, turbines and steam distribution along with wastewater treatment.
Position duties include leading shift operations, as well as ensuring safety, productivity and quality through the entire operation. - Lead and support the activities of operating crews throughout the business unit on a rotating shift basis.
- Monitor and coordinate operations throughout the shift as necessary to optimize productivity and operating efficiency.
- Coordinate with production crews any required shift maintenance activities with the objective of minimizing equipment downtime and overall financial impacts.
- Share and support the business unit goals with the hourly team members emphasizing the role that the team plays in achieving these objectives.
- Develop team member's technical competencies of their jobs as well as the team aspects required for individuals and the crew to be successful.
- Promote flexibility to maximize the teamwork amongst the operating and maintenance teams.
- Provide for on-shift training for all team members regarding problem solving and decision-making processes.
- Improve training materials/processes throughout the business units as needed.
- Establish and lead operator responsibility for safety, environmental, quality and productivity conformance providing training and direction as required.
- Set clear expectations and evaluate team members based on performance and provide feedback on successes and opportunities for improvement.
- Follow and implement established safety policies and procedures.
- Hold all team members accountable for safety. Lead Process Variability Reduction (PVR) on shift through alarm acknowledgment, entering good comments and utilization/development of troubleshooting documents.
- Administer the labor agreement, policies and work rules.
- Lead our crews with the role out of Operator Driven Reliability (ODR).
- Act as Operations Maintenance Coordinator during off shifts.
- Drive engagement at all levels to continuously improve culture.
- Lead on shift efforts to ensure solids losses to the sewer are kept to minimum.
- Forecast and manage species grade changes of batch digesting process.
Personal qualities
Required Experience and Education: Minimum Required Experience and Education:
- Associates degree or greater is preferred in a technical field or 3+ years equivalent experience in an industrial operations setting.
- 1-3 + years of experience.
Required skills: Minimum Required Skills:
- Good communication, organizational, troubleshooting, and interpersonal skills.
- Self-starter, able to work effectively with minimal direct supervision.
- Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic work environment and manage change on a regular basis.
- Possess ambulatory capabilities to move freely about the mill, ascend and descend ladders and stairways, and tolerate temperature extremes.
- Excellent leadership skills.
- Strong aptitude for mechanical, chemical processes, and computerized systems.
- Ability to make difficult decisions.
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts following the salaried DuPont Schedule (days and nights).
