Job DescriptionThe Senior VA Certifying Specialist provides advanced support and oversight in the certification process for veterans' educational benefits. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local policies, and advises service members, veterans, and their dependents on enrollment processes and program eligibility. The Senior VA Certifying Specialist maintains up-to-date knowledge of regulations, assists in staff training, monitors student progress, and prepares necessary reports to ensure the accuracy and integrity of veterans' educational benefits.

The Senior VA Certifying Specialist provides advanced support and oversight in the certification process for veterans' educational benefits. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local policies, and advises service members, veterans, and their dependents on enrollment processes and program eligibility. The Senior VA Certifying Specialist maintains up-to-date knowledge of regulations, assists in staff training, monitors student progress, and prepares necessary reports to ensure the accuracy and integrity of veterans' educational benefits.

The Hiring Range is $57,542.40 (min) to $63,296.64 (Mid)

The final salary offer will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.

Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills

Preferred

* Bachelor's Degree

Required
* Associate's Degree
* Exceptional experience may be considered in lieu of educational requirements
* 3 years in VA Certification, records management, or a related field
* 2 years military experience or an additional 2 years military benefits experience
* Must complete School Certifying Official (SCO) Training

Essential Functions:

* Core Values Demonstration: Consistently embody TSTC Core Values (Excellence, Accountability, Service, and Integrity) when interacting with internal and external stakeholders, customers, students, and the community.
* Certification Process Oversight: Assist in overseeing the certification process to ensure that all necessary documentation for educational benefits is collected, completed, and submitted in compliance with federal, state, and local policies.
* Veteran Advisement: Provide guidance on enrollment processes, assess program eligibility, and review and correct veteran forms before submission for certification of benefits.
* Regulatory Knowledge Maintenance: Keep current with rules and regulations regarding Title 38 and state educational benefits for service members, veterans, and their dependents.
* Records and Reporting: Prepare and maintain records and files for reporting purposes; compile data and prepare special or recurring reports for supervisors or other departments as needed.
* Data Review and Correction: Assist in reviewing data and audit reports, identify discrepancies, and make corrections to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local policies.
* Training Development and Delivery: Support the development and delivery of statewide training on Title 38 and state educational benefits to ensure adherence to policies and procedures.
* Student Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor students' grades, academic standing, program enrollment, and conduct, reporting any changes promptly.
* Student Advisement: Meet with students to provide guidance on admissions, financial aid, registration, Title 38 & state educational benefits, and graduation while ensuring policy compliance.

* Data Review and Correction: Proficiency in reviewing audit reports and correcting data discrepancies.
* Training Development: Skills in developing and delivering training programs on veterans' educational benefits.
* Student Monitoring: Ability to monitor students' academic progress and report changes.
* Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, and other stakeholders.
