Overview (Scope of Role)

The Process Engineer is expected to work with the Global Process Engineering Leader and on project teams to define and implement most effective chemical process technology on Trinseo projects, providing technical solutions and process engineering expertise on capital projects, technology implementation projects, productivity, quality, and cost improvement projects, etc.

The chemical process should meet the requirements for the specific project including technology implementation, capacity improvements, technical innovations, cost & energy efficiency improvements, good manufacturing practices, EH&S and Process Safety standards adherence.

This position is also responsible to work with Project Managers to meet the cost and timeline expectations of the project team. This position reports to the Global Process Engineering Leader as part of the Global Engineering & Technology Organization. This position will be located in Midland, Michigan, USA.



Responsibilities

    Work on business-critical project teams, Project Managers and Program Managers to support in the execution of chemical processes and systems on large capital projects.
  • Work with the Project Manager to create Technology Implementation Plans for project team application.
  • Develop and document most effective technology and best practices for engineering projects.
  • Assist in the creation of chemical processes, process design packages, equipment specifications, estimates, and other project documents.
  • Provide Process Engineering expertise and use of engineering tools for designing process equipment, optimization of processes, evaluation of process designs, and implementation of new or proven technologies.
  • Develop and document best practices, engineering tools, and templates to be used by Process Engineers, Production Engineers, Process Control Engineers, and other technology disciplines.
  • Provide technical support for existing and new manufacturing plants in the implementation of technology, process optimization, cost improvements, process simulations, troubleshooting, plant start-ups, etc.
  • Assess and implement EH&S requirements and Process Safety standards.


Qualifications

Competencies:
  • Needs to have a solid fundamental understanding and practical application of process engineering knowledge. This includes being proficient and current on process engineering sizing, optimization, and modeling tools.
  • Must have a good understanding and working knowledge of project management tools.
  • Must be able to teach others in a classroom environment or one on one.
  • Must be able to write technical reports and work processes to be followed by others.
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Chemical Engineering.
  • 2-5+ years of experience in Process Engineering roles, on capital project teams and on technology development & implementation.
  • Experience with the use of Process Engineering tools and project methodology or ability to quickly develop these skill sets.
  • Solid foundation of engineering concepts.
  • Strong problem solving, troubleshooting and analytical thinking skills.
  • Become proficient in using equipment sizing, process modeling, and hazard analysis tools.
  • Gain a working knowledge of Process Safety principles, governmental environmental regulations, and EH&S guidelines is necessary to implement on projects for compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, presentation skills, negotiation skills, and analytical thinking.
  • Fluency in English language
