Responsibilities
Job Description: The Senior AWS Solutions Architect will design, implement, and optimize AWS-based data solutions for IT modernization projects. This role demands extensive expertise in AWS services, architecture best practices, and implementing secure, scalable, and high-performance data ecosystems. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in data migration, advanced analytics, and machine learning within AWS environments. This position is on-site at Ft. Belvoir.
Architect, design, and manage data pipelines and storage solutions exclusively on AWS.
- Develop and implement serverless architectures using AWS Lambda, Glue, and API Gateway.
- Design enterprise-scale data lakes and lakehouse solutions using AWS S3, Lake Formation, and Redshift.
- Build and maintain machine learning workflows using AWS SageMaker, AI/ML toolkits, and Python.
- Optimize real-time data streaming and processing with AWS Kinesis, MSK (Managed Streaming for Apache Kafka), and DynamoDB Streams.
- Implement data orchestration using AWS Step Functions, Glue Workflows, and EventBridge.
- Manage infrastructure as code using AWS CloudFormation, CDK, or Terraform with a focus on automation and scalability.
- Enforce security best practices, including IAM roles, AWS KMS encryption, Secrets Manager, and fine-grained data access controls.
- Lead cloud migration strategies for on-premises data systems to AWS, including rehosting, re-platforming, and refactoring.
- Conduct performance monitoring and cost optimization for AWS workloads using CloudWatch, Cost Explorer, and Trusted Advisor.
Job Duties Include (but are not limited to):
- Develop end-to-end AWS-native data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and analytics.
- Implement high-availability architectures using AWS Auto Scaling, Elastic Load Balancing, and multi-AZ deployments.
- Manage large-scale data processing workloads using AWS EMR, Glue, and Athena.
- Set up and maintain AWS security and compliance standards, including VPC design, NACLs, and GuardDuty monitoring.
- Create scalable data solutions for structured and unstructured data using Amazon Redshift, DynamoDB, and S3.
- Perform ETL/ELT operations with AWS Glue, Step Functions, and AWS Data Pipeline.
- Build and monitor real-time analytics solutions using AWS Kinesis, Elasticsearch Service, and QuickSight.
- Deploy and monitor machine learning models on SageMaker with secure integration into other AWS services.
Qualifications
Required Skills & Experience:
- Extensive experience with AWS services, including Glue, Redshift, Lambda, S3, EMR, Athena, SageMaker, and CloudFormation.
- Deep expertise in AWS security best practices, including IAM policies, encryption with KMS, and Shield.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Scala, and Java for AWS-based solutions.
- Hands-on experience with real-time streaming using AWS Kinesis and MSK.
- Strong understanding of serverless technologies, including AWS Lambda and Step Functions.
- Proven ability to architect cloud-native solutions using AWS for large-scale data processing and analytics.
- Familiarity with AWS monitoring and management tools, such as CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and AWS Config.
- Due to US Government Contract Requirements, only US Citizens are eligible for this role.
Desired Skills:
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional certification.
- AWS Certified Machine Learning - Specialty certification.
- Experience with hybrid cloud architectures and AWS Outposts.
- Knowledge of advanced AWS services, such as Elastic Inference, AppFlow, and Lake Formation.
- Familiarity with AWS networking (Direct Connect, Transit Gateway, VPC Peering).
Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience.
