Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

    Set up, manage, and remove traffic control devices, such as cones, signs, barricades, and temporary traffic signals, in accordance with traffic control plans and local regulations.
  • Direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic around construction sites or other areas of disruption using hand signals, flags, or signs.
  • Monitor traffic conditions and adjust control measures as necessary to ensure the safety and efficiency of traffic flow.
  • Communicate effectively with construction crews, law enforcement, and the public to provide clear instructions and information.
  • Communicating with other flaggers using hand-held radios to direct two-way traffic onto a single lane.
  • Inspect traffic control devices to ensure they are in good working condition and comply with safety standards.
  • Respond to emergencies, such as accidents or equipment failures, to provide immediate assistance and reestablish safe traffic conditions.
  • Maintain accurate records of traffic control activities, incidents, and equipment usage.
  • Attend safety meetings and training sessions to stay updated on industry best practices and regulations.


Job Summary:

The Traffic Control Specialist is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic at construction sites, road maintenance projects, and other locations where traffic flow is disrupted. This role involves setting up and managing traffic control devices, directing traffic, and ensuring the safety of workers and the public.



Qualifications (Experience, Education & Certifications, Key Attributes):

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license (preferred)
  • Certification in traffic control or flagging (preferred but not required).
  • Ability to stand for long periods and work in various weather conditions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to follow precise instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic knowledge of traffic control devices and safety procedures.
