Clinical Respiratory Care Lead - Night Shift

Provides lead supervision to the staff to assure quality patient care. Facilitates effective open two-way communication and resolution of work site operational issues that support service line/service goals, objectives, benchmarks and targets. Performs duties of a Registered Respiratory Therapist as needed to provide professional and quality care to patients of all ages. Assists with development and coordination of strategically aligned processes related to patient care. Assumes responsibilities delegated by manager.

• Organizes and oversees daily activities of a department, work unit, team or process.
• Serves as a role model, developmental coach and mentor for staff. Assists managers in assuring staff competence.
• Assumes accountability and oversees the development of staff work schedule and make appropriate resource allocation decisions.
• Monitors performance improvement activities and/or collects PI data as directed by management. Participates in development of action plans, time frames and quality assurance.
• Participates in employee annual performance and peer review process with in allocated time as directed by management.
• Active participation with strategically aligned projects, relating to the improvement of Carilion Clinic's Respiratory Care Services.
• Identifies, develops, coordinates and implements pathways, protocols, and guidelines within assigned areas. Develops specific outlines and time frames with management for project completion.
• Performs duties of a registered Respiratory Therapist and applies knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients served. Performs various therapeutic, life support, diagnostic procedures and patient/family education. Evaluates patients for the appropriateness and effectiveness of ordered therapy and communicates suggested alternatives to physician. Performs facility specific support functions and maintains professional and clinical competencies yearly.
• Functions as a clinical resource and role model for clinical practice to coworker, students and physicians.

Education: Bachelor's Degree preferred and graduate of a COARC approved advanced practitioner Respiratory Care program.

Experience: Minimum Three years post graduate Clinical experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.

Licensure/Certification: Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner by the Va. State Board of Medicine. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care.

Other: Effective interpersonal communication (written and verbal), organizational and teamwork skills required. Ability to function independently and utilize various computer programs (i.e. Excel, Word and Access). Must successfully complete orientation and competency validation yearly for position. Be able to acquire BLS within 3 months of employment in this position or as determined by department. Some areas may require ACLS, NRP, PALS certification within one year of employment. Active membership in professional organization (AARC) preferred.
