Learn more about the benefits of working at UC Brief Summary of Job Duties: The Deputy AD - Internal Operations reports to the Director of Athletics for all elements of these job responsibilities. The incumbent will supervise and assume managerial oversight and responsibility for intercollegiate sports at UCSB along with the oversight of student athlete support service areas within the department. Additionally, the position will serve as the Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) for the department and will directly supervise selected sports, administrative areas, and lead departmental initiatives. Furthermore this position will serve as the department's representative in many areas within the campus, serve on the council of the Big West conference, and represent the department nationally through the NCAA. Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
- Ability to bring visionary leadership to the program.
- Demonstrated fundraising prowess.
- Reputation for and record of personal and programmatic integrity.
- Successful grasp of principles of equity and diversity in regard to coaches, staff, and student-athletes.
- Demonstrated commitment to racial, ethnic, and gender diversity.
- Possesses compelling interpersonal skills in order to excel as a representative of the University and the athletics program in relationships with the broader University community (e.g., faculty, staff, students, and administrators), athletics community, and the general Santa Barbara community (e.g., alumni, donors, and boosters).
- Familiarity with a campus environment that promotes for its student athletes the highest academic standards combined with expectations for excellence in athletics.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Sports Administration or related area
- 4-6 years Progressive athletics administration experience
- 4-6 years Senior-level experience in budgetary and personnel oversignt, and management of a university athletics program, NCAA Division I
- Experience in a research university
Special Conditions of Employment:
- Availability to work nights, weekends or holidays as needed to accommodate sport schedules. Must be willing to work extended hours to advance and represent the department to internal and external constituents.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:
- 100% Administration - A. Develop department policy and procedures and ensure all staff members are adhering to the systems, controls, and policies of the department, University, Big West and MPSF conferences, and NCAA. B. Provide input and consultation to the Director of Athletics on matters complex in nature and of critical importance to the department and campus. C. Prepare, review, revise, and distribute department policies and procedures manual, independently revising content, interpreting and implementing internal policy in accordance with campus policies, NCAA, conference and state/federal regulations. D. Oversee the Gaucho Care & Performance Model to coordinate campus and department support services to student athletes. E. Provide leadership and serve as the administrative advisor to the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). F. Provide strategic leadership and direct all Life Skills programing in the department and in collaboration with University resources. G. Provide direction in conjunction with the Director of Athletics and Deputy AD - Compliance, to ensure compliance with Title IX regulations and gender equity issues. F. Exercise broad discretionary authority to solve problems in assigned areas of responsibility. G. Independently manages special initiatives that require planning, coordinating, analyzing, implementing, and reporting, involving multiple intra- and inter-campus constituents.
- 0% Supervision - A. Supervise and provide managerial oversight to Head Coaches and Staff personnel. B. Independently conduct performance evaluations, including communication with staff and coaching personnel. Evaluate Head Coaches for assigned sports and assigned staff in the areas of demeanor, effectiveness, team performance, recruiting, fundraising, fiscal responsibility, administrative performance and academic/graduation success of student-athletes. C. Recruit, interview, and lead search processes for administrative personnel and coaches ensuring that university and NCAA protocol is followed. Provide guidance on performance standards and University procedures to staff. D. Provide direction to sports to develop long range and short term plans for budgets, facility considerations, staffing, equity, student athlete academic and welfare considerations and infrastructure to be competitive in the conference as well as regionally and nationally. E. Direct and provide guidance to the Head Coaches with any personnel related problems that arise regarding student-athletes, assistant coaches, job standards, etc. Provide conflict resolution and ensure necessary university and department policies are followed. F. Supervise assigned sport coaches and support staff, coordinate short and long range planning for sports programs, advise and assist in day-to-day operations; event management; conduct on-going evaluation of personnel including recommendations on employment status. G. Establish budget priorities for assigned athletic programs; develop long range plans within the framework of the Department; manage the budget by assisting coaches in allocation of funds for each sport; monitor expenses against budget; recommend new staff salaries and annual merit increases. H. Serve as primary liaison to academic, HDAE and student affairs units on campus including but not exclusive to the office of admissions, office of the registrar, financial aid office, College of Letters and Science (colleges), and others. I. Responsible for daily communication with personnel directly supervised, and act as a liaison between the coaching staff and Department managers in the areas related to scheduling, procurement, and problem solving. J. Coordinate with coaches in the scheduling of all athletic contests with competing institutions, the conference office and the NCAA. K. Attend select home and away competitions. L. In the face of changing NCAA legislation, work with staff to develop strategic initiatives and programs that benefit the department, teams, coaches, staff, student athletes and university that are executed in a consistent, efficient, and professional manner. M. Advise and meet with UCOP and elected officials as necessary. N. Act as a representative of the Athletic Director
- 0% Governance - A. Work with the Director of Athletics, coaches, booster clubs, Assistant Athletic Director for Development, and Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance to ensure compliance requirements are met. B. Work with the Assistant Director for Development, the UCSB Foundation, and booster clubs to develop plans for the future, and to secure donated funds for assigned programs. C. Advise and assist the Director of Athletics on matters of personnel within each assigned program to include coaches interaction with student-athletes, administration and other affiliated interests, and organizational and administrative skills of coaches and sportsmanlike conduct. D. Provide direct oversight and coordination to the ICA Governance Building Board. E. Serve on the IAPB, Institutional Athletics Policy Board, as organized by the Chancellor.
- 0% General - A. Supervise operation of the intercollegiate athletics program including specific knowledge in the areas of budgeting, facility planning and event management. B. Attend numerous events throughout the year to represent the UCSB Intercollegiate Athletics program. C. Proactively initiate, design and conduct department and coaches meetings on a wide array of topics including but not limited to NCAA and conference compliance directives, recognition of athletic program policies and achievements, student athlete services and support programs, and campus procedures. D. Initiate communication with the Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) regarding all necessary department, university, conference and NCAA matters. E. Work closely with a wide variety of campus units to ensure that the ICA program is serviced correctly and to the best ability of the campus entities. F. Organize collaboration within campus resources to provide education to the department regarding diversity, equity, and bring awareness to necessary employee and student welfare issues. G. Serve as Senior Women's Administrator at institutional, Big West Conference and NCAA meetings. Serves on committees and task forces. H. Assist with the recruitment of prospective student athletes as requested by the coaching staffs. I. Coordinate and oversee special awards for student athletes J. Assist with fundraising as needed. K. Meet with athletes, Job Standards, and recruits. L. Serve on various departmental and University committees. M. Coordinate ordering of annual NCAA publications and important periodicals. N. Perform duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
