SYSTEM ENGINEER - SENIOR LEVEL - SES

JOB SUMMARY: MCSG Technologies is looking for a Senior System Engineer. This position will be heavily involved utilizing and developing in-house tools and products with on-prem systems as well as developing and maintaining AWS Lambda and OpenSearch services. Location: Remote work for this position is permitted, but onsite quarterly travel to NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt MD, typically for a week may be required if remote.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

• Facilitate the acquisition, transformation, interpretation, presentation, and visualization of network performance monitoring data across multiple platforms, tools, and languages, including Linux, Python, AWS (including OpenSearch, lambda, CloudWatch, CloudFormation, CloudShell) REST, JSON, Riverbed, and multiple database formats.
• Design and implement data pipelines using AWS Lambda and AWS OpenSearch for real-time data processing and analysis.
• Create dashboards and visualizations to communicate insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Ability or experience with data visualization in OpenSearch and/or custom data visualization applications

REQUIREMENTS:

• Experience on Linux systems as application developer with application configuration and dependency experience. Experienced user-level familiarity with file structures, operations, permissions and Linux package installation.
• Programming experience programming in Python 2 or 3 with REST API knowledge, and some use of version control tools for Dev/Ops (e.g. GitLab). Bash and similar shell scripting a plus
• Database experience in support of data visualization and database creation and manipulation such as DB query, data extraction/addition using structured data with existing or in-house DBs and AWS OpenSearch
• AWS - Dev/Ops - experience building AWS solutions and capabilities specific to data processing involving but not limited to multiple AWS logging services, S3 buckets, SNS/SQS, lambdas, OpenSearch, configuring and troubleshooting IAM roles and JSON/YAML data formatting experience required.
• Communication - Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication using common tools in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, TEAMS)
• Familiarity with basic TCP/IP network concepts as used on Linux systems such as: IP addressing, subnetting, routing concepts, and network troubleshooting tools such as traceroute, tcpdump, NC, and ping.
• Strong analytical and communication skills required with ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• AWS networking familiarity and configuration including hybrid cloud to on-prem solutions (Direct Connect, Transit Gateway) and cloud networking, configuration & debugging (VPCs, Subnets, Route tables, VPC endpoints, Security Groups, Transit Gateways, NACLs).
• Linux (Debian/RHEL) Operating Systems
• Package Management: RPM, APT, DPKG, PIP
• Editors: VI, EMACS, Sublime

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 7+ years of overall experience.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline.

CLEARANCE: Ability to obtain required National Agency Check (NAC) clearance.
