Position Highlights The James E. Rogers College of Law invites applicants for the position of Student Support Specialist II. A successful applicant will bring enthusiasm and excellence to student advising and support and will develop and implement strategies, systems, processes, communications, learning experiences, and networks promoting student outcomes. This position will primarily assist Master of Legal Studies students in successfully integrating into the College of Law community and in thriving personally and academically. This position will also assist and empower students to achieve academic success through a variety of activities, including but not limited to academic coaching, student learning centers, academic preparation and success coursework, tutoring, and life skills support.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Implement diverse approaches to facilitate the growth and development of students in their academic and social integration into the College of Law and the University of Arizona, with a focus on MLS students, accelerated MLS (AMP) students, and undergrad law students
  • Assist and empower students to achieve academic success and social adjustment through a variety of activities including academic coaching, course enrollment reminders and assistance, student learning centers, academic preparation and success coursework, tutoring, life skills support, and other services
  • Proactively identify, develop, monitor, evaluate and adjust individualized learning plans with learning strategies and academic techniques specific to each student
  • Maintain and document contact with students in standard reporting structures of each department to communicate student progress to and with appropriate constituents
  • Proactively monitor academic progress of students, including enrollment and online course activity as an indicator of engagement
  • Explore ideas and opportunities to personalize programs to increase student participation and retention
  • Communicate with faculty, academic advisors, and others to identify students in need of support
  • Communicate to prospective students and current students the availability of funding sources, including QTR, employer reimbursement, and scholarships
  • Keep abreast of current national initiatives and activities and develop a network of resources and contacts to further expand student success
  • Serve as an initial contact and resource for routine student issues. This includes recruitment, admissions, compliance with policies and procedures, exams, monitoring of student progress and paperwork, and maintaining and updating the virtual student lounges/websites
  • Develop, plan, implement, and deliver coursework (credit or non-credit) and other learning experiences that prepare individuals for the university experience and graduate education and/or enhance academic success of current students
  • Organize and facilitate workshops and other activities and assist student groups
  • Plan, evaluate, and help to improve student processes as part of a team working to efficiently serve students, including students in the BA in Law, undergraduate minor, MLS, MLS AMP, Global LL.M., and graduate certificates
  • Additional duties as assigned.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with different groups/individuals
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
  • Ability to work with essential technology, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
  • Knowledge of legal education or complementary graduate education
  • Skill in speaking and presenting information to small, medium, and large groups
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
Preferred Qualifications

  • J.D. or Complementary Master's Degree
