General Summary As a leader within the Risk Management division, this team member works with the Chief Risk Officer and the Senior Vice President, Risk Management to develop the vision for the credit union's Risk Management division. In coordination with the Chief Risk Officer, this position is responsible for leading the credit union's regulatory compliance and public policy functions. The Vice President, Compliance & Public Policy works with leaders across the organization to identify, assess, and mitigate compliance risks that could impact the credit union's operations, finances, reputation, and stakeholders, as well as helping to ensure the credit union's long-term sustainability and success by fostering a risk-aware culture and implementing robust compliance management practices. The successful candidate will also provide strategic guidance on public policy issues that impact the credit union's business and reputation. Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain and grow a comprehensive regulatory compliance program that ensures the credit union's adherence to federal, state, and regulatory requirements, including those promulgated by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), and other regulatory agencies.
- Collaborate with lines of business across the entire credit union to advise on the applicability of regulatory requirements to existing and new products, services, and operations, including both consumer and commercial products.
- Lead the credit union's regulatory change management program by reviewing changes to laws and regulations, communicating changes to relevant stakeholders across the credit union, and advising on changes to products, services, processes, and procedures stemming from legal and regulatory changes.
- Lead the review of marketing materials to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, as well as the development of disclosures to support the marketing of the credit union's products and services across all mediums, including print, digital, social media, and video.
- Lead the complaint management program. Work with leaders across the organization to ensure that complaints from all channels are appropriately handled. Lead efforts to track and manage complaint data to help identify and drive improvements across all sectors of the credit union's operations.
- Serve as a point of contact for regulatory examinations and audits, and work with leaders in the Risk Management division and other divisions across the credit union to support the credit union's responses to examinations and audits, as well as to resolve any issues arising from audits and examinations.
- Monitor and analyze public policy developments that impact the credit union's business, including legislative and regulatory changes. Collaborate with the Chief Risk Officer to provide strategic guidance on public policy issues to credit union leadership. Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, industry associations, and other stakeholders to stay informed about emerging issues and trends and advocate for policies that benefit the credit union and its members.
- Collaborate with other members of the Risk Management division to support the credit union's lines of business in the development and maintenance of policies and procedures that ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and promote sound risk management practices.
- Collaborate with other members of the Risk Management division to develop, implement, and provide compliance training programs for credit union staff to ensure awareness and understanding of regulatory requirements and policies.
- Collaborate with the Chief Risk Officer and the Senior Vice President, Risk Management to develop and manage the compliance budget to ensure effective use of resources in a manner that ensures alignment with the credit union's overall budget goals and objectives.
Experience and Skills
Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field required; JD or Master's degree in a related field preferred. Experience: Ten (10) years or more of compliance, legal, or risk management experience at a financial institution. CRCM, NCCO, CUCE, or other related designation preferred. Skills: Must have excellent knowledge of financial institution law and regulations as well as computer applications proficiency including the Microsoft Office suite - Excel, Word and PowerPoint (at minimum). Communication: Must have exceptional written and oral communication skills as well as analytical, problem solving, and interpersonal skills. The ability to motivate or influence others is a material part of the job, requiring a significant level of diplomacy and trust. Obtaining cooperation (internally and/or externally) is an important part of the job and a high level of interpersonal skills are critical to the success of this position. Work frequently involves discussion of problems, material presentations, and resolving issues impacting departments or divisions. Supervisory: Three (3) years or more of managerial experience preferred. Salary: Minimum $144,966.05 - $217,449.07 Maximum Time in Service: None required.
