Job Summary

Reporting to the Enterprise Platforms Supervisor, this position works alongside a team of seasoned developers to build and maintain applications and infrastructure to support cloud adoption across the UC Davis campus. The core duties of this role focus on enabling access to AWS via IET's AggieCloud platform through a combination of innovative service design, software development and automation. The team develops custom applications and infrastructure with a heavy focus on automating deployments and leveraging cutting-edge services across cloud platforms. The role of the Cloud Platforms Engineer is to automate service and software deployments using infrastructure-as-code, custom scripting and CI/CD tools, maintain and enhance the AggieCloud AWS organization and be a subject matter expert in all things AWS.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
* Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
* Experience building solutions and deploying applications using Amazon Web Services.
* Experience writing scripts and working in at least one major scripting or programming language.
* Experience with version control systems (Git, Subversion, etc.)
* Experience using infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Cloudformation or similar).
* Experience working on CI/CD pipelines.
* Working knowledge of distributed computing systems including basic computer networking, server administration, basic application security and cryptography; knowledge of software development workows using these systems (Git, Subversion, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications
* Current Amazon Web Service certification or Microsoft Azure certification
* Experience designing articial intelligence tools and/or using machine learning to accomplish technical tasks or conduct data analysis.
* Experience with security tooling such as SIEMs, log aggregation solutions, intelligent threat detection software, vulnerability scanning utilities, etc.
* Experience developing applications using Python.
* Experience with Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform
* Proficiency in AWS advanced services like Control Tower, Organizations, Service Catalog, and AWS Config
* Experience with AWS security services like GuardDuty, Security Hub, and Inspector.
* Three or more years experience maintaining public cloud organizations including managing access controls, deploying conguration changes to member accounts, applying policy congurations to the organization, and creating and maintaining scripts and automation to manage member accounts and organization-wide services.
* Interpersonal and written communication skills to effectively convey technical information to technical and non-technical individuals at all organizational levels.
* Backend web server and API development skills.
* Data science and database design skills.

Department Overview
The Enterprise Platforms team within the Application Services unit of Enterprise Infrastructure Services (EIS) provides application development and support for software platforms, cloud and mobile development and has a high campus impact, as it supports mission-critical systems and applications used by the entire population of students, faculty, staff, and university aliates.
This position within the Enterprise Platforms team supports campus-wide platforms and cloud services including deployment, automation, customization and development work.
The mission of Information and Educational Technology (IET) is to create and support an information technology environment that enhances the ability of the UC Davis community to teach, do research and provide public service. In support of the University's mission, IET will deliver an infrastructure of technological services appropriate to the requirements of the campus community.

Work Environment
* Hire MUST be located in-state. (Out of state applicants will be considered but must relocate instate if hired). This position can be done primarily remote with the expectation that the employee must be available to come on site should management deem it necessary for emergencies, meetings, support activities, etc. No reimbursement of travel expenses, travel time not considered work hours.
