Cultural Resources Team Lead

SWCA Environmental Consultants has an exciting opportunity for a Cultural Resources Team Lead for our Arizona offices (Tucson, Phoenix, Flagstaff). The Cultural Resources Team Lead is a core member of the Cultural Resources Program, responsible for managing staff, projects, and clients. In this role, you will assist the Directors, other Leads, and Project Managers with project coordination and ensuring quality work for cultural resource management projects and tasks. The successful candidate will possess a proven track record of developing new business, managing large-scale projects, meeting financial goals, and mentoring others to do the same.

This is a position provides the flexibility of a hybrid work environment and is based out of the Arizona region supporting our three Arizona offices (Tucson, Flagstaff, and Phoenix). This is a full-time, salaried position reporting to our Arizona Cultural Resources Director.

The Cultural Resources Team Lead will manage current projects and contracts while participating in the development of a forward-looking plan for the team. This position will require highly developed critical thinking skills to recognize and solve problems proactively and independently, as well as identify and mitigate risks and impediments through persistence, creative thinking, and a focus on client satisfaction.

Organizational leadership:

• Supervise and mentor cultural resources project managers, technical staff, and field personnel, while promoting a culture of teamwork, engagement, quality service, and customer satisfaction.
• Work closely with the Directors and other Team Leads to hire Cultural Resources staff. Take the leading role in identifying staffing needs, screening job candidates, conducting interviews, and making hiring recommendations to the Director.
• Proactively monitor the productivity and development of your Cultural Resources Team, set clear expectations, and foster an environment of teamwork. Help align employees to their annual career development goals and build teams to support program and individual employee development.
• Provide general support to the team relating to subject matter resources, training opportunities, regulatory and research updates.

• Drive compliance of safety policies and reporting requirements to ensure overall team safety.
• Demonstrate proficiency in project management and effective delegation.
• Contribute to fostering a collaborative team environment that leads to successful projects and team members in the local offices and with other SWCA offices as part of OneSWCA.
• Show commitment to the Mission, Vision, and Values of SWCA.

Technical Leadership:

• Serve as primary author on large technical reports, research designs, and other technical documents.
• Conduct content review of technical reports and site forms.
• Oversee field research, data collection, inventory, analysis, and final report production, ensuring these tasks are conducted in accordance with the QA/QC plan.
• Take initiative, resolve problems, and create improved procedures to ensure that tasks are completed in the most effective manner.
• Perform additional project management duties as needed: manage budgets and projects, prepare proposals, interact with clients, and manage staff.
• Identify and resolve problems in creative ways.

Client Leadership:

• Develop strong relationships with existing clients while executing strategic analysis, marketing, and sales for new clients.
• Manage the performance of individual projects, and effectively coordinate with clients and agencies, to produce technically excellent work that is on time and on budget.
• Engage with the office business development team to evaluate changing market conditions and strategic sales opportunities at a regional and sub-regional level (new clients and geographies).
• Lead proposal efforts and internal business development groups, drive accountability for participation in business development and help mentor seller-doer mentality in all employees.
• Take lead role in the go/no go decisions in concert with the office Directors and drive accountability for efficient proposal and marketing pursuits.
• Develop strong and productive relationships within industry organizations and with agency staff.
• Show dedication to scientific integrity and quality work products for all clientele.

Minimum qualifications:

• Master's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related field.
• Eight (8) years of archaeology fieldwork experience- academic or research-oriented supervisory experience can substitute for a portion of compliance-based experience.
• Three (3) years of experience in CRM in a staff supervisory capacity.
• Extensive experience with Arizona or Southwest archaeology.
• Experience with and thorough knowledge of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, Arizona's State Historic Preservation Act, and the Arizona Antiquities Act.
• Excellent technical writing skills with a record of completing technical reports and projects in a timely fashion.
• Experience with content edits of reports and managing scheduling and budgeting of projects related to cultural resources.
• Have a proven client network which is supported by a proven reputation for providing highest quality service to clients.
• Team-orientated attitude with strong leadership and mentoring skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as oversee small or large projects by working closely with Field Directors, Project Managers, and Team Leads.
• Qualified for listing on cultural resources permits in Arizona.
• Ability to travel an estimated 10% of the time.
• Applicants must have valid driver's license and be able to meet SWCA's driver requirements.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience supporting NEPA analyses.
• Experience working on an interdisciplinary team of subject matter experts and planners.

An employee in this Arizona-based position can expect an annual salary of $77,662.00/yr. - $101,228.00/yr. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law.
